Yummy veggies over veggies! - Edit
My first lunch after having arrived in Uzbekistan the previous night. My jetlagged body craved for heaps of healthy veggies and I found them here.
Read moreThe cafeteria-like restaurant was almost empty around lunchtime on a Sunday. You have to grab a tray at one end and help yourself to varieties of small breads and prepared salad platters. The breads I took were okay, nothing to be excited about. The salads were quite strong on dill, which I personally liked. The one with eggplants was delicious.
Thereafter follows the hot counter where you have to tell staff what you want. They can combine several dishes on one plate for you. I asked them about their vegan and vegetarian options and they showed me plenty. I opted for two dishes, one based on eggplant and the other based on broccoli - both very yummy. The staff also pointed me to a vegan somsa filled with mashed pumpkin, which was extraordinary.
The next counter contained numerous desserts, mainly pastries and cakes that most certainly contained multiple kinds of dairy products. The last counter is of greater interest to vegans, displaying numerous fresh vegetable juices and/or smoothies. The carrot juice I opted for did not taste as if it had been sweetened with honey, just plain carrots.
Both the dining hall inside with its large ceiling as well as the small terrace towards a little shopping complex offer pleasant seating where you can watch lots of local regulars pop in and have a friendly chat.
Note: Apparently you are supposed to leave your tray on your table when leaving, at least the staff was rather irritated when I tried to return it inside.

Simple food in a stylish restaurant - Edit
Albeit a typical self-service canteen the interior of the place is very decent and nice local music usually plays on the background. Get yourself some of their pretty large variety of vegan side dishes and samosas with tea and you're set! Don't expect too much from the food but the prices will please you. The place gets super busy during lunch times but after you can relax on one of the topchans (oriental sitting area with low table and no chairs) for as long as you want!
