Poor choice

I was delighted to see a vegan/vegetarian section on the menu so did not hesitate to book a night here with friends. I love a nut roast! I asked which of the dishes were vegan and was told only the vege burger or the pasta without garlic bread. The waiter had checked with the chef. So the nut roast, curry and beetroot burger were not vegan. The pasta was described as with Parmesan and garlic bread so without either and no substitutions that was not an attractive offer. That left me with the burger. The chips were delicious. The burger was okay but it was served in a horrible gluten free bap which was hard and dry. The chutney on the side was nice. I got extra ketchup as everything was so dry. The maggies leap beer was good. The restaurant itself is lovely. Nicely decorated and although it was a busy Saturday night the tables were well spaced out. My non vegan friends said their main courses were lovely. I enjoyed the vegan pudding which was a chocolate cheesecake with sorbet. If I had known there was a vegan pudding I would maybe have not eaten the burger bap or asked if they could have done a side salad. A distinct lack of veg on everyone’s plates. If the nut roast dish could have been veganised I would have been very happy as it was served with veg and mash - yum!!! The hotel itself is lovely. We were here to relax and catch up with friends and it served its purpose and I was glad there was something I could eat here. I haven’t had the breakfast yet but reception told me there would be vegan options 🤞

Breakfast update. Beans, mushroom and tomatoes are the cooked offerings. There is a selection of chopped fresh fruit. There are nuts, seeds and sultanas. That is everything that is definitely vegan. I took a risk with a slice of brown toast, flora and marmalade. Nice coffee machine. Fruit juices etc. vegans will manage fine here even if no vegan sausages, dairy free yoghurt etc
