Served us meat & cheese - Edit
We were really excited to try this place, but sadly it was a pretty bad experience for us as vegans. Even though we were really clear and repeatedly said ‘vegano’ when ordering, we were given dishes that had meat and cheese in them. We didn’t realize until after we’d already eaten some.
Read moreWhen we told the staff, they didn’t apologize or try to make it right, and we still had to pay full price (and it’s not a cheap restaurant). That was really disappointing.
I’ve been vegan for 9 years and have never had this happen before, so it definitely stood out. If you’re vegan, I’d recommend avoiding this spot — they just don’t seem to take it seriously. Maybe we just got a bad waiter, definitely be careful if you decide to try it.

Specify WHAT you want, not just that you want it vegan - Edit
First of all, I'd like to point out this review has to do with their brand-new location, on Deba Ibaia street, just a stone's throw from the original here on HappyCow. I could very well see this off-shoot being added too, and I might at some point do it myself. For now, I think these comments could apply to both.
Read moreThe reason why I was referred to this location in the first place was because their flagship restaurant was open.. but only for take away! I was in a little hurry and just unable to wait, so I followed their advice. That said, lame to prioritise take away customers.
As a new operation I imagine staff were also new, and they were happy to admit not having tried the dishes themselves. Despite being early in the evening they had already quite a few bookings, and so all they could offer was a table next to their "proper", roofed terrace. I could do without the roof on a sunny day, it's just that some other guests nearby were quite engaged in hash-smoking activities. To be fair, I hardly perceived any of it, and so there was no need to recruit a vegan militia in order to execute Straight Edge Revenge, haha. I do expect Doña Chepina's terrace to be smoke-free, in compliance with current regulations though.
Staff were, as I said, inexperienced but said their sudadero options are quite popular among vegans. I quickly made a decision and went for some kind of sandwich (a gringa, maybe?) that cost 9.90 euro. "It's a small taquito", she said, shockingly. Indeed it was small, but also tasty. I ordered and it turned out to be 4.50, which I found more affordable. At 2.50, the horchata was a nice complement too. I hurriedly left Doña Chepina, feeling less peckish than 20 min before.. but knowing I could have got a better fix. Next time.

Very tasty vegan tacos - Edit
Despite it’s not a vegn place, it deserves 4 star, as the vegan options are so good and they’re aware about plant based food, they have vegan cheese!

A little bit of México in SS - Edit
Delicious vegan food! They have two kind of vegan tacos (al pastor and sudadero). The sudadero ones are just amazing! Last time they told me that they are about to include more vegan options!

¡Vamos, totalmente recomendable!
