ICONIC - deserves 5 stars

WOW! We went here for my partners birthday since we read they accommodate vegans. We are blown away by the food and the service. We ordered 3 items and received an 8 course meal.

We ordered:
Jicama sushimi
Charred beet salad
Cauliflower main

We received the items listed above and(all vegan):
Root vegetable lettuce cups
Bread with vegan butter
Lavender berry sorbet
Passionfruit cookie crème brûlée
Coconut sorbet

Everything was simply perfection. Legitimately one of the best meals I have ever had. The service was impeccable. I feel we got a steal of a deal for the food and service we were provided.

RUN do not walk here, it is a MUST while in the Cabo/San Jose area.

Fantastic!!!!

We had the best meal here! Everything was 5 Stars!!! The food taste and presentation, the ambiance, the staff! The vegan food isn't all clearly marked but the staff is well aware and can point out every vegan options, which was a decent amount.

We had some of the best cocktails ever to start, then there was bread brought. We had a beautiful smoked beet dish to start, then had the cauliflower dish and the mushroom dish. Both were exceptionally full of flavor and gorgeous presentation! They had one dessert which was homemade ice cream and it was beautiful and delicious! The staff was so, so wonderful!!! We can't wait to go back!

Pros: Gorgeous presentation of all food, Plenty of vegan/gf options, Amazing staff

Cons: Pricey, Hard to find parking

Awesome!

This restaurant is amazing. The food is not typical Mexican fare. It’s imaginative, presented artistically and delicious. I love regular Mexican food FYI - but this is in a league of its own. Eat here.

Pros: Impecable service, Innovative cuisine

Delicious vegan risotto

They don’t have lots of vegan options BUT the few options are superb. The risotto is amazing. We had to come back one more time before leaving. The restaurant is beautiful, the staff is super friendly and the chef came by to say that he enjoys cooking vegan food. They have good entrees and desserts as well. Oh, and the drinks!! Must go when in San Jan Del Cabo.

Would give it 5 stars- amazing!

Happy Cow reserves 5-star ratings for fully vegan or veg restaurants, but this place should really get 5 stars for the creativity, flavor and effort spent on their vegetable options. This is fine dining in a gorgeous outdoor room in the heart of downtown SJD with PLENTY of vegan options. I ate here with my vegan brother and between the two of us we ordered 6 vegan dishes to try. All were great! The dishes are super innovative and the presentation is excellent. The compressed jicama sashimi was amazing. The charred beets cannot be missed. The risotto with mushrooms was overly salty but we still loved it. The sope, the ceviche and the cauliflower were also delicious. Go with friends willing to eat vegan for a night and order everything. You won’t be disappointed. I actually love that they serve dishes for omnivores here too, because I can visit repeatedly with friends who aren’t vegan and we will all leave very satisfied with our meals. We can’t wait to return!! Gracias, Chef!

Amazing but flawed

This restaurant probably outshines anything in my hometown, but the experience is still a mixed bag for something at this price point. So I’ll just hit the highs and lows:

*when you arrive they make a big deal of taking note of your dietary restrictions, and bring you an amuse bouche (and 2 intermezzi + bread) that matches your preference. The place is crawling with servers and bussers who are all engaged in an impressive display of organization...that isn’t necessarily reflected in the outcome. The chef is wandering amongst the guests, checking in on people. The mood was very celebratory and has a fun mix of well dressed patrons and tacky tourists.

*cocktails are 10/10 and come in funny setups that I adored

*the menu is pretty unhelpful when it comes to indicating what can be vegan. Plenty of things can that are not explicitly marked, where others are mentioned in the menu. The server does a decent job of helping to recommend but why not just label the menu so I can consider all options? The menu is so big I would love to consider everything available.

*they brought out the wrong entree for me—very much a non vegan item, so they aren’t keeping tabs on restrictions before the food goes out.

*my non vegan friend ordered a dish that she HATED. She is a professional chef and she felt the pozole had undercooked meat and was served lukewarm. She sent it back. When the bill came, it still had the pozole on it and we had to ask for it to be removed. :/

*I quite enjoyed my mushroom risotto. I liked the zucchini flower quesadillas and the presentation was stunning, but…were they great? I didn’t really feel that they tasted special.

*my friend, having sent her entree back, asked to skip to dessert. She ordered something nonvegan (no menu items are labeled vegan in the desserts so I couldn’t tell you if I could have eaten there) and the servers brought out two plates without reference to my restrictions. By the time I was done with my entree and she was halfway into her dessert…they just seemed to assume I was sharing and never brought the dessert menu back or offered, so I just let it go. She loved her dessert.

Fancy dining but a miss for us

Chose this place for dinner because it was highly rated for vegan options, going in we knew it was on the pricey side and it definitely feels like fine dining. The outside looks a bit touristy but inside is lovely and service is almost too attentive there are like 6 waiters serving you throughout the meal. Very much appreciated the variety of vegan menu items, I wished it had been extended to the cocktail menu because there were interesting ones that were not vegan, that said we thoroughly enjoyed the cocktail I chose. I dined here with my omnivore friend, we admittedly over ordered because she ordered meat dishes but also was sharing the vegan dishes. The items we got at the start of the meal were our favorites, the vegan dishes that was our favorite was hands down the Charred Beets with candied pecans and vegan cashews jocoque, we loved it, the vegan sope was also good, there was fresh bread served with a yummy cashew butter for me (there was an absurd presentation of the smoked dairy butter for my friend) but with the surprise amuse bouche lettuce cup from the chef kicking off the dinner, at this point we really had no room for the main course which was huge mushroom risotto that we actually didn't enjoy at all, my friend felt the issue was the rice was undercooked. However, I would come back and try other dishes if I had the chance.

Pros: A separate Plant-Based menu, Lots of interesting flavors , Lovely setting

Cons: Overly fussy service, Some misses with the food

Amazing food!!

Food is memorable to unforgettable. Restaurant/chef has won many awards, and prices could easily be twice as expensive outside of Mexico. Really impressed my non-vegan friends who haven’t tried fine dining before. Well worth the price, about $120 usd for two people sharing two appetizers, a main, two drinks, water and a tip.

Favorites: vegan ceviche, vegan sope, mushroom risotto, beets

Tomato salad seemed like a miss to me.

Cauliflower could have been roasted more, so I wouldn’t put it high on my list unless you’re ordering a lot of vegan dishes.

We found the service unnecessarily complicated and a little baffling at times. (The menu and some of the cocktail glasses were impractical to use. They had 2-3 waiters for our 4-top who were constantly coming to and from the table). I’m sure this is fine for some people, but we found it to be over the top.

Food and interior design make this place entirely worth it. Live music on some nights.

Clearly marked vegan options! Food was amazing and staff was so accommodating. Definitely expensive though, and very touristy.

Incredible vegan options

Don Sanchez had absolutely amazing vegan options. They asked if we had any dietary restrictions or allergies when we arrived, and we said that we were vegan. They said that the lentil sopes, charred beets, jicama sashimi, tuber ceviche, and cauliflower were vegan, and the tomatoes and mushrooms ajillo could easily be made vegan.
We ordered the charred beets and sopes to start, with the mushrooms ajillo and cauliflower as our entrees. Before our starters, they brought out a fresh vegetable taco - diced root vegetables on a lettuce leaf with a spicy salsa as a starter/palate cleanser.
The sopes are topped with lentils and pickled carrots and were surprisingly filling. The charred beets definitely were the star of the meal. They have a wonderful smokiness to them and are topped with candied nuts and served with a side of hibiscus vinaigrette. With our starters they brought out three rolls of purple and orange bread with a creamy nut “butter” for dipping and spreading. Before dinner, we received a pineapple and citrus sorbet palate cleanser.
The cauliflower was some of the best we’ve ever had. It came with roasted squash, peppers, zucchini, aioli, and a faba purée. The mushrooms ajillo was on the richer and saltier side but was insanely good. The mushrooms were saucy and meaty while the risotto was incredibly unique with its coconut cream and chunks of avocado.
The servers were so nice, friendly, and attentive. Overall, the food and service were amazing.

Pros: Excellent food, Amazing service, Live music

¡Muy Bueno!

This place was quite exceptional and worth the outing!
Visited this restaurant with friends who are non-vegan but have my meal preferences in mind when we go out.
While on a weekend trip to San Jose del Cabo friends had chosen this restaurant only 10-minutes away from our hotel.
I started with the Jicama Sashimi and the Charred Beets.
Both were beautifully displayed. I have to say the beets is a must! Flavors had a smokiness to them that I haven’t ever tasted with beets before.
Before the main meal they served up a mouth cleansing Watermelon-Mint Sorbet that was perfectly refreshing.
For the main meal I chose the Mushrooms Ajillo. The umami in this dish was great on flavor. Slightly salty but not enough to destroy the meal. Well worth it.
This place is a must if you’re in town

Pros: Great vegan options , Above and Beyond service , Ambiance was exceptional

Cons: Hard to think of one.

Decent vegan options

I had the vegan taco, which was fantastic, and the cauliflower, which was basic vegetables but good. Loved that they brought me a vegan amuse bouche when everyone else got one.
