I have had your cakes at several natural food stores in D.C. Every time I come away disappointed. They don't necessarily taste bad but they are as dry as dry can be. So finally today, we decided to stop by the Baltimore restaurant for my wife's birthday. Remember, I have been a vegan for 48 years so I think I've tasted awful to fantastic, and yes, even today, even in the store, the baked goods were awful. They were simply too dry – insanely so. And I"m not the only one to say so. There were four of us and we concur. We had one of the cheesecakes, one of the cupcakes, and the carrot cake. My daughter wanted to insist on a refund. Being non-confrontational by nature, I insisted we just leave. Dodah's, you clearly have a great reputation with amazing reviews on Happy Cow. Good for you, but I simply disagree. I hope others will step up and say so as well. Of note, I forgot to mention that I had three vegan friends come by to visit me in D.C. three months ago. Not knowing my feelings about Dodah's cakes, they brought some. The four of us had the exact same reaction and the cakes ended up in the trash. Again, no problem with the taste, but the consistency and moistness, or lack thereof, make them inedible.
End of rant; sorry.
PS. I hope I wont get an answer that speaks to a bad batch; the cakes are always dry.
Pros: I'm told the buffet is good; I have not tried it.

There are good days and bad days. On the good days it's incredible. On the bad days it's... Pretty bad. My recommendation is to avoid the sandwiches. Stick to the fried shrimp entree. Those are consistently delicious. For a side get the garlic kale and/or seafood mac. They may or may not be good but if they are good that day, they're amazing.
Read moreAlso, this place does not understand what an oyster mushroom is. Anything on their menu that says it has oyster mushrooms is lying. What they have are standard button mushrooms, which are fine, but not for oyster mushroom prices.

i’ve been going here for years now and the food is phenomenal. i always get the mac n cheese and drummies, and sometimes the chocolate or lemon cake and it’s always so so good. recently they have implemented a self-service device that has made paying with cash more difficult because you have to get the attention of the server, and depending on who it is that can be difficult. i do hope they figure that out. as it is though, i am willing to put up with it because i like the food so much.

I thoroughly enjoyed this food! It was my first time going and I went hungry so I wasn't sure. However, all I had was on point. Some of my carnivore family members wanted to know the address and wanted to go back👀😄 but we didn't have time. We definitely will be returning. They have a sign that explains what's in what and that helps on both the employees and customers side of talking. That was a big plus for me. Although the employees there that day spoke very little english I still had an easy time getting what I wanted. I purchased sweet potatoes, collards, BBQ ribs, string beans, mushroom Po boy🔥🔥🔥😎 a half and half drink(made my own combo) and some desserts not pictured. The food was seasoned well and when I'm back in those parts I'll make my way to support again.

Food Was Mediocre, Cook Needs Training - Edit
I’m actually a supporter of Dodah’s Kitchen but my last visit was mediocre at best. On November 5, 2023 I ordered a new dish called “shrimp and grits” that tasted absolutely nothing like a shrimp and grits. Looking for grits? They’re nonexistent. The flavor was unpleasant and bland. I’m not sure why this is a menu item seasoned the way it is.

On the other hand, we also purchased 3 cakes and they were very good.

Back at Dodah's Kitchen for the first time since they remodeled. The place looks AMAZING, very clean, cozy, and very inviting!! Today I tried the General Tso's cauliflower over rice and beans, collard green and potato salad. Great portion size, great presentation, great atmosphere and the food was seasoned very well and they packed the food with care. I LOVED it all. Someone picked up my order that wasn’t me. I asked her to compensate me, she didn’t want to. She was very standoff ish and ignored me when i thanked her, for making me a new order! Much attitude that was unwarranted.
