Vegan Pho!

When I am in the mood for great veggie food this is where I go. The place is run by an old Vietnamese Buddhist couple. As far as I can tell the place is completely vegan...but you could eat there and not know it because the menu that they have (I hear they are working on a new one)does not advertise that it is veggie and the couple's English skills are lacking... The traditional Vietnamese cuisine is also so tasty that you might think you are eating meat when you are not. If you want a piping bowl of spicy Pho full of imitation meat that is the best I have ever tasted than this is the place for you!!!

Pros: Veggie Pho!, Cheap, Large selection of imitation meats

Delicious and affordable

For relatively little money, you get a delicious feast!

For non-Vietnamese, this place can feel a little intimidating. As a walk-in, I found it awkward to order from the menu, and stood around, again, awkwardly, waiting for my food.

Still, worth it.

It's in a shopping arcade, a sort of small indoor strip-mall, full of Vietnamese businesses. It's like entering a different country.

Dieu Huong- delicious!

Renamed to Dieu Huong- still in the same place and still all vegetarian. I had the veggie noodle soup & summer rolls! They even had a buffet- which my husband loved!

Directionally Lead

The place where this restaurant s is located is an absolute pandemonium on a Sunday, which is when I went! Parking is almost enough to make you reconsider, however all of the challenges were well worth it! I mistakenly thought their restaurant name was Thanh Son. So I went into that business which was full of meat and diary.
The actual restaurant is located inside a mini mall, just doors down. Thank you, whomever put up pictures on this site. The food is absolutely amazing, and I am so thankful that I stay persistent in finding this place. It is clear this is where the Universe wanted me to be. The egg plant was Devine! The rice was so tasty. I order almost everything on the menu. This is a must try to experience Love! The owners speak little English but their hearts are full of joy! An Interview will be in the works for this one!

TIPS BEFORE VISITING: The restaurant is located in the SAIGON WEST building, unit 37. Cash only. There is an ATM in unit 36 if you need it.

We got the #5 spicy noodle soup. It has plenty of mock meats to keep you interested and each are delicious. Overall a comforting, filling bowl with great flavors. We will be back!

Pros: Food comes out fast, Authentic Vietnamese, Affordable prices

Cons: Cash only, Hard to find, Limited seating

My experience was different than most others.

Maybe it's because I showed up 30 minutes to closing but I didn't enjoy the meal.

I'd like to try again earlier in the day.

They were very kind to let me come back later to pay. They only accept cash, which I didn't learn until my food was ready.

Fresh, Fresh, Fresh!

This tiny little spot served up big, Fresh pho that was delicious!
This place is inside one of several "strip" malls inside a larger complex of shops. There is no sign or complete set of numbers outside to guide you. We had to ask for help.
Look for a red arch between "Saigon West" and "DamoaBeauty Cosmetics". The shop is several stores down on your left. The day we went they had boxes and boxes of fresh fruit & veggies out front.

Pros: Lots of fresh veggies, raw and cooked., Generous portions, They even added extra broth 2 R leftovers

Cons: Very difficult to find., Some language challenges for us to ask ?'s

Vietnam Authentic!

Kind of hard to find as it’s located in like a strip mall but this is the real deal here! I’ve been to Vietnam before and this is the closest to it I’ve tasted outside of it. The menu is simple, I let the waitress order for me. What arrived was Bun Ho Hue and some egg rolls. These were just egg rolls and they were so damn good. I wrapped it in a lettuce leaf, threw mint leaves in, and dunked it in the provided sauce. Delicious! The Bun Ho Hue was extremely flavorful and I couldn’t even eat it all.

If you’re in the area do not miss out on this place! And don’t forget to bring cash because it’s cash only.

Felt like Vietnam ✌️

Everything we ordered was fresh and delicious and my family felt like we were back in Vietnam - it was also a fun night for the other shops nearby - many of the vendors were out in the shared hallway doing karaoke and dancing which added to the warm memories.

Pros: Delicious , Authentic, Lots of options

Cons: Cash only

Get the #11!

Nice staff, good food (I got the 11 which included tofu loaf—tofu, oyster mushrooms, a white wine aftertaste—which was delicious!), and everything is vegan! The menu says that all dishes are “vegetarian”, but don’t worry, everything is vegan. My friend and I went at 5:30ish and didn’t have to beat any dinner rush, which was nice. Also, the food came fast and was hot, which was perfect.

Will definitely be back again to try other dishes and the drinks as well!

(Most entrees were $7.95, which is a good deal for dinner in the DMV.)

Awesome vegan Vietnamese find!

Came here with a friend for lunch on a random Monday and it was totally packed! Tiny hole in the wall in a Vietnamese shopping center offering authentic dishes à la carte as well as a buffet - options to dine in and take out! I had the Canh Bun Chay (faux crab/pork noodle soup with spinach) and my friend got the spicy noodle soup - we both loved it!! I'll definitely be coming back here :)

Pros: GREAT value, Authentic

Cons: A little tricky to find, Lots of mock meats (a pro if you're into that), Cash only!

The real deal

Tucked away inside a lively Vietnamese mini-mall, Thanh Van dishes out authentic Vietnamese dishes to a mostly Vietnamese clientèle. There’s a steam table with about 10-12 options, plus an a la carte menu. I got to sample 5 items with rice and soup for $9 and everything was excellent, so I’d have to call it a great deal.

Not much English spoken, but enough to get the job done.

Enjoy!

Good Vietnamese Soups

I was so happy when I found Thank Van Restaurant two years ago. Prior to that I was making modifications to dishes when dining at Vietnamese restaurants. As a Vietnamese, I love Viet foods above all other cuisines. Of course, I'm bias. I have tried many soups on the menu at Thanh Van and like them all, but my favorite is bun rieu. Every time I come here I do about $30 of carry-out so I don't have to cook for the next few days.

Thanh Van only accept cash and the workers don't really speak English but they're very friendly. The owners were students of a Buddhist temple in Vietnam where they learned to cook vegan cook. Highly recommend Thanh Van!

Pros: reasonable price, yummy soups, quick service

Cons: cash only, limited English, small place

Best Vietnamese Food I've Ever Had

This place is so fantastically authentic. I could imaging I am in the middle of Hanoi as the ambience is not high-falluting but the food is super tasty and authentic.

It is hard to find as it is in the Eden Center 'Little Vietnam' and you actually have to go into a little arcade to get to it. You cannot see it from the street.

This is the quintessential authentic 'hole-in-the-wall' great food experience you are looking for.

Pros: super authentic, mostly ethnic locals eat here so must be good

Cons: hard to find in the arcade , humble decor

Oh, Vietnamese vegan food!!

This place is awesome. It's snuggled inside the Eden Center, so if you don't know where to go, you may be frustrated and leave. Please do not! This place requires you to go inside a main door right near one of the road entrances and then just walk a little way down, and you're there.

They have pho and noodle soups galore, definitely a specialty and a saving grace for those who love the idea of pho but can never get good vegan pho (let alone be sure that is is pho). They also have Vietnamese pancake!!! Love it. The sauces are lovely, and go well with the summer roll or spring roll appetizers. They provide lots of fresh bean sprouts, basil, mint, and lettuce for just about everything you order. They also have delicious vegan beverages like avocado smoothie, tea and coffee drinks. Although not on the menu, they have a small selection of items that are made daily like noodles, tofu, and veggie dishes that you just have to ask about - they sit right in a buffet stand as you walk in this small establishment. Oh, and lotus root salad, yes please - who has this, really? Yum! Very authentic flavors made vegan, love it.

They have traditional Vietnamese desserts like cold agar-based vegan custards.

It is cash only. The owners are very patient and kind, but there may be a slight language challenge.

Go for the pho, and try something new - you won't be disappointed!

Pros: Pho, Savory Vietnamese Pancake, So vegan

Cons: Small venue, Cash only

This place is 100% vegetarian, but not 100% vegan. The folks who work there insisted that the pancake is vegan and all the savory food that I had asked about, but not all the desserts. They say they make vegan desserts and non-vegan desserts, so ask for the ones that do not have milk. Now I want to go again!

A vegan lunchtime and dinnertime oasis.

Of all the vegetarian restaurants I have experienced in my life, Thanh Van Vietnamese vegan restaurant is my lifetime favorite in the United States. Thanh Van is so authentic -- rather than trying merely to mimic meat-serving Vietnamese restaurants -- that I anticipate that omnivores will also love this restaurant.

Thanh Van is apparently at least one or two years old. The owners speak limited English for me to ask more of their history, which also helps the peacefulness of the experience, because of the quiet we enjoy from our language dynamic. I deeply appreciate all that Thanh Van has done for me, and wish to thank them by encouraging people to visit, while the pho is hot.

Pros: Purely vegan., Amazing food. , Wonderful owners and staff.

Cons: None.

Awesome veg food!

What a great way to warm up on a cold day! Yummy! I had a huge, steamy bowl of Pho so chock full of veggie, noodles, and an assortment of faux meat that I couldn't even finish a third of it! My husband had a gigantic plate of stir fried veggies with faux chicken. The menu is very large. They advertise a buffet, but there were only about 3 things on there that looked like they had been sitting a LONG time. The ample menu more than makes up for this though, and prices are great. This sits INSIDE the mall so if you are using your GPS to find it, it will only take you to the general area. You have to go inside little Vietnamese mall, behind the huge music store. It is well worth the trouble. Also they only take cash.

Pros: Awesome food, Tons of faux meats, Very nice Buddhist couple

Cons: Difficult to find if you are relying on GPS, Buffet was not really a buffet, Cash only
