Vegan-friendly set meals

When my dad first invited me to have dinner with him, my mom, his classmate, and his classmate’s wife, I was not sure I’d be able to find anything on the menu that I’d be willing to eat. But I serendipitously read about its Michelin-recommended vegan set meals before he made a reservation. I was the only one in our party who ordered a vegan set meal (option A: NT$600), but the staff were happy to accommodate me separately from the rest of the party, who ordered omni items from the a la carte menu. (There were a few items that seemed vegan-friendly, but I was happy with the set menu items and didn’t ask the staff in detail to clarify the rest of the very long menu.) My mom did point out the fried aiyu jelly from the dessert section, and I was intrigued enough to ask the staff to substitute the sweet soup from my set. I didn’t realize that they would serve a side of honey with it, so I’d recommend notifying them when ordering so that they omit it when serving it.

The food was prepared well, and I enjoyed each course as it was brought out. The pace seemed a little bit inconsistent, but I didn’t worry about it too much since the staff was handling both my dishes and my party’s dishes separately. The only course I wasn’t a huge fan of was the steamed rice cake: it was a bit dry. The fried aiyu was interesting: I’ve never had warm aiyu with a slightly crispy, light batter surrounding it. A squeeze of fresh lemon juice over it was a nice touch.

It’s always nice to go to a special occasion restaurant and be able to dine with my party without being relegated to the figurative corner!

Pros: 2 vegan set menus, accommodating staff, comfortable environment

Cons: a la carte menu isn’t clearly marked, not all ingredients are listed
