great local store - Edit
This small grocery co-op offers quite a variety for such a small store. The store has a great layout and use of the smaller space. Their products are fairly priced compared to Earth Fare, Whole Foods and The Fresh Market. I appreciate their gluten free variety as well as vegan selections.

meh.... - Edit
Not a good hot bar selection available for vegans. Usually there is a somewhat bland premade veggie burrito in the cold case that is vegan. There are also usually a few options for vegan baked goods.
Overall, the grocery selection is good, but the pre-made vegan food is lacking in availability of options.
Pros: some options, grocery store, nice seating area
Cons: expensive, not many options
Favorite shop in town - Edit
The store isn't huge, and while selection is pretty good, some areas are lacking. It didn't take long to figure out the few items I have to go to Food Lion for. Considering the size of the place, I don't really consider this a fault... The place is packed with good stuff.
I stayed away for a long time because friends complaining about the high prices there. I'll tell you what, compare prices to Earth Fare (and especially WF in winston) and they are almost always significantly cheaper, both for local produce and groceries.
Comparing a small stores selection to a mega stores inventory is like negatively reviewing a Kia because it isn't as fast as your Ferrari. For what it is, Deep Roots deserves nothing more than 5 stars.
Pros: prices, atmosphere, non corportate
Cons: not a 1stopshop, small produce dept

Support Your Local CoOp - Edit
This place is packed wall to wall with a rather large variety for such a small space. Their prices seemed to be about the same as the larger natural food chains in the area. The staff was very friendly and helpful.
Small but powerful - Edit
Deep Roots Market is a co-op and it's quite a small store but impressively packed with all sorts of vegan, vegetarian, and general healthy foods, as well with refrigerated areas for frozen things, tofu, 'cheese's, and juices and such; a bulk section; a purified water dispenser; a small produce; and a toiletries section. They really believe in buying locally, so they have local produce often, and many things else are organic. Some of the natural soaps are also made locally; plus, they sell hemp bags and reuseable produce/grocery bags. Deep Roots hosts a healthy living expo annually as well.
Pros: decent selection (shelf), healthful and veg, caring employees
Cons: patchy selection (produce
