very nice - Edit
I had the curry which was very nice on a cold rainy day very helpful staff happy to explain in English all the options. The location is also quite good being very close to hoogstraat where a lot of hotels/hostels are it is a 5m walk or less from Burg square.

They offer a mix of traditional (the stew was amazing) and eastern inspired dishes. Everything was very tasty. The overall feeling was of a homely and old-school diner.

cosy - Edit
The place was extremely cosy and welcoming. Its goal is to offer local traditional food, which is not always easy to find in Belgium, as well as excellent local beers to pair with it.
Read more- The burger looked more like a "kroket" than a burger patty (and was not served in a bun, either); it was good but I'm not sure it should be called burger.
- The stew was served with excellent sweet potatoes.
Pros: Belgian specialities, Belgian beers, Cosy

Lovely meal - Edit
My family of four had a lovely meal at De Plaats this week. The owner is entertaining and has been part of the community for years. We had an excellent adapted traditional Belgian favorite Stoverij and frites (sweet potato) and some excellent beers. We also tried the Vedg Lasagne but it was less interesting (rather dry). The burger was a potatoe mash version - if you like that - but if I am going out, I have gotten a bit spoiled by the 'Beyond Meat' type of plant substitute. The atmosphere is casual but really cozy and welcoming. Will be going back for the Stoverij and beer!
Read morePros: Nice welcoming atmosphere and delightful 'host'., excellent stoverij
Cons: Lasagne and Burger were disappointing.

De baas is top! - Edit

Unbedingt hingehen.

Gutes Veggie-Restaurant in Brügge - Edit
Das Essen war gut, wir hatten die Lasagne und das flämische Stew. Der Inhaber ist unterhaltsam, ungezwungen und hat gute Tipps und Empfehlungen. Es herrscht eine entspannte und sehr internationale Atmosphäre.

Excellent food - Edit
We loved the place and the food. We had a traditional flaemish dish made vegan that was absolutely delicious as well as the complementary soup. The place itself was very charming as were the owner and cook. Prepare for very particular humor, we found it very entertaining!

Not your average restaurant - Edit
As others have noted, this restaurant doesn't offer you the average experience. The wait is quite long, the owner is a character, the menu is small and the dishes are expensive. Still, we loved eating here precisely because it is not the usual place that you visit everywhere.
Read moreMy husband opted for the burger with fried potatoes and salad while I had the Lebanese chickpea stew. Both meals were very good. We especially enjoyed the interior space, which felt breezy and spacious and was a place to relax after walking all over Bruges.
So if you are prepared to forgive the obvious faults of this place and wish to enjoy the special atmosphere, go here - if you want a quick lunch and basically just fill up, go somewhere else.
Pros: Special place, not what you expect, Good food
Cons: Long wait, Quite expensive, Small menu

Not great - Edit
Our experience here was not great. Service was slow as they were understaffed on a Saturday evening and we waited 45 minutes for 2 dishes, and then my husband’s dish, seitan stoverij, arrived cold. We sent it back and waited another 15 minutes for it to come back. My lasagna was good, but quite a small portion, and we had finished it and were hungry by the time his food came back. Which was then a pretty small portion too. We were given a moeullieux as an apology but had to wait for that too (halfway through our wait, the waiter took another table’s order and then pointed at us and said “Oh right, your moeullieux!”).
Read moreInterior wise, the place was messy and had stains on the wall, cobwebs in the corners, and dirty windows.
Honestly do not recommend.

Happy belly! - Edit
Me and my boyfriend took a main course each: the rice with Indonesian veggies and the chickpeas pot. They both tasted delicious. The waitress who served us was very kind. The only small negative note: after having finished our dishes, nobody came to ask whether we wanted something else to eat/drink, despite we waited a long time at the table. Perhaps they didn't have any desserts left or the kitchen had already closed, anyway I was a bit disappointed to be "abandoned" that way.

Rude staff (owner) - Edit
We were looking forward to eating here, as it is one of the only vegan/vegetarian restaurants in Bruges. As good tourists, we dutifully went in on a Saturday night and inquired after a table for two. The man (possibly the owner) looked at us angrily and shook his head. "Do I look like I have any space, any tables here?" He then walked off, leaving us to take ourselves off to a tastier and friendlier restaurant.
Read moreFull points to the man for speaking English, and I'm sure it was a busy Saturday evening, but is there any call for alienating potential customers like that? Wish we could give just one star or no stars. Super entitled attitude and we will never eat here now. Shame.

Cons: The rudest man we met in Belgium, Entitled attitude of staff, Unnecessary rudeness to customers

You will eat here. You will let the proprietor give you an exasperated show. You will see other tourists give up and walk away, but you will stay there, transfixed on this magical man. You will tip him and tell him to stay handsome.

Reliably good homestyle vegan food - Edit
We ate here twice while visiting Bruges. We loved the low key atmos and the owner was the main chef and server! We had the Lebanese stew (awesome), the Flemish stew (tasty but not mind blowing) and the quinoa curry (very good). We loved the side menu and the lack of pretense. Would absolutely eat here again!

Friendly and chilled - Edit
Really lovely little place, which is actually mostly vegan. The man who served us (who I think was the owner) was really friendly and helpful, especially with allergy questions. We had falafel to start, then the seitan Flemish stew and a chickpea dish - both were very tasty and extremely generous helpings.
Read moreThe restaurant was cosy and chilled, and the service quick. Only downside was the relatively high cost of the meal - but for that, you get the peace of mind of being in an entirely veggie (and mostly vegan!) place, and I think the meal was worth it.

Cons: Quite expensive
