Great vegetarian mala hotpot for 60 yuan - Edit
Found this place via Gaode map app after visiting the nearby temples – the waitress told us that the monks visit this restaurant often.
Read moreThe restaurant was tucked away from the big street but the restaurant was easy enough to find. Some major construction was happening outside, so the surroundings weren’t the most appealing. Inside the restaurant looked very nice though!
When we entered, only mala hot pot was offered as an option. We happen to love it so it was more than welcome! It’s unclear if during busier hours they have a wider menu.
Although we were the only customers, the staff brought out lots of fresh veggies and faux meats for us to choose from. We were offered hongcha (tea) as we waited for the hotpot to boil and didn’t feel rushed to leave, on the contrary, we got multiple refills of soup. The price was 60 yuan per person. Would recommend!

A Sophisticated Place - Edit
This new vegetarian restaurant has a convenient location in central Kangding. Inside it is beautifully decorated and has very attentive staff that serve tea upon arrival. The owner is a charming English-speaking local who also is very knowledgable about Tibetan culture and history. I had a delicious and delightfully presented set meal with rice, as well as complimentary yoghurt and soup. There are also many vegan options, so check with staff. I would highly recommend this place when visiting Kangding.
