Seven years after the opening of this restaurant, the owners Diane (chef) and Rachel (service) turned vegan. As of September 2018 the restaurant also turned vegan, but still serves authentic Indonesian food. Lunch choice is between 3 lunch menus and evening cozy a la carte service (menu on their website).
Note May 2020: confirmed reopened for indoor dining Tues-Sat evenings with pre-booking only. Continuing to offer takeaway. Open Mon-Sat 5:30pm-9:00pm. Closed Sun. Last order 9:45 pm.

Better than Perfect

There's nothing about the quality of the food (top notch) that I can say that hasn't been said, so I'll give some thoughts on my unique experiences.

I went here and got the Reistafel with someone who is allergic to peanuts. I wrote ahead and asked how this could be accommodated - the owner wrote back and was very kind in explaining what could be done (serve peanuts on the side on one dish, swap out others if need be). When we got there they confirmed again, and were sure to place peanut dishes far from the person with the allergy.

Service was otherwise also top notch. They asked if we wanted more of anything, and honestly I wish I could have said yes but I was stuffed. We got refills of the little tapioca chips at the start, and were even given our extras in a takeaway bag. That was really unexpected in a good way! The owner came by a few times to make conversation and ask how we were.

We were also seated outside upon request and that was lovely. There's a sticker on the restaraunt door saying they're Covid-safe - I appreciated that too!

Overall this was more than a perfect experience.

This was a great find. The seitan goreng sindanglaya was life changing. This restaurant is more protein forward, as in all the dishes are tofu, tempeh or seitan focused. Would have loved more veggies as the star!

Great food and nice ambience

The food was great, we took the menu to share and really there was not dish that was not tasty! Agree that they are masters of the jackfruit. Absolutely worth it.

Delicious food and nice ambiente

Delicious menu, we had a soup and fried corn balls for starters and then peanut seitan and water spinach with fried rice. The taditional coffee was also an experience and the fried banana cake was amazing. Nice outdoor seating area with lots of plants.

perfekter Abend

Die versteckte Terrasse im Hinterhof des Dapur, der liebe Service und das feine Essen haben gemacht, dass wir uns sehr wohl gefühlt haben und einen wirklich unvergesslichen Abend hatten. Auf den letzte bestellten Espresso haben wir leider vergeblich gewartet aber das hat unseren positiven Eindruck nicht geschwächt.

Masters of jackfruit!

Fantastic spot! Best Indonesian food I’ve ever tried. We had the Rendang nangka (jackfruit stew), sayur lodeh (vegetables and jackfruit in coconut sauce), and Terong Kecap (eggplant) from their main menu and the sticky rice coconut cake and jackfruit ice cream from the dessert menu. Every dish was incredibly flavorful, fragrant, and delicious. Even their home made ice tea was lovely. The woman who served us was delightful and gave us great and very candid recommendations that felt like she was actually trying to suggest what we would like best rather than what they wanted to sell more of / what was best for the restaurant.
I would say all of the jackfruit dishes were a highlight (including the ice cream) I also really enjoyed the sticky rice dessert (which was delicious and fun to chew).
The only thing I disliked was that the eggplant dish and jackfruit stew felt a bit too oily. The eggplant was essentially swimming in oil, which felt unnecessary and was not particularly appetizing. I also felt some of the portions were a bit small for the price (mostly the jackfruit and vegetables in coconut sauce).
Still, overall we had a great experience and I would gladly return.

My favorite vegan restaurant

Perfect for special occasions. Super friendly staff and cozy atmosphere. Make sure to book a table well in advance. The food is simply amazing. I have never been disappointed. You should try the sticky rice with mango for dessert.

Delicious Indonesian Food

We love to eat at Dapur. The food is delicious. They have 10 different main dishes. Our favourite dish is the seitan but all dishes we tried so far are good (: also the bami goreng is the best we‘ve eaten in Switzerland.

Perfect place for a date

I took my partner here on valentine’s day. I wanted something different, so an Indonesian restaurant with a totally vegan menu looked great. The photos of the food and dining room looked beautiful too, with fresh flowers garnishing the dishes and candles on the tables.

The flavours, textures and presentation of everything we ate was excellent. The dining room is just like the photos. The whole visit felt unhurried and we had plenty of time to relax and talk over dinner.

We felt very welcome here. The lady serving us gave us a rose each as we left.

It's a bit out of central Zurich, but absolutely worth the trip. We walked, and it was a nice evening walk through the suburbs.

Absolutely incredible

I had the Bala Bal fritters with a sweet chili sauce to start. Then, the Rendang as a main. It was incredibly tender, packed with well balanced flavor and the portion size generous. The banana cakes with warm chocolate sauce were the perfect way to finish it off. Must try if you’re in Zurich!

Excellent Indonesian cuisine in a vegan style

This very cozy restaurant nearby the railway station Zurich Oerlikon offers very delicious vegan Indonesian food. The service is excellent, the ambience just perfect. I went there with some friends, and they could not believe that all the cuisines are plant-based.

I love Indonesian cuisine, but it's usually not very vegan friendly. I'm so happy that this restaurant switched to a 100% vegan menu! Friendly and delicous!

Authentic tastes, friendly staff

Certainly a great experience dining there, especially if you take the “Reistafel” which is a selection of almost all choices on the menu but as a small portion to share.

Plant based Indonesian restaurant

Food is delicious, service very kind, and the place has a good vibe.
I’ve been there only for lunch, when they propose a menu with 3 options, and if I’m not wrong they change the offer daily. I used to go there quite often before the various lockdowns and I’ve never been disappointed.
I will come back soon to try their dinner menu!

I would say this is a restaurant worth the visit for all tastes because it’s simply so delicious. The creativity of the chef is also unbelievable. You get to enjoy all sorts of fascinating dishes. Not a single dish was “boring.” Every dish is a surprise for your body and your mind: it explodes your tongue and strikes you with its beauty and novelty.

Even after the appetizers were served we knew we would come here again and again. Every dish afterwards was served with our “wow” and tasted with our “yumm!” We were all very happy to discover this little vegan paradise! By the way the restaurant is quite hard to find due to its atypical appearance, but the garden is very quiet, green, and vibrant. Eating in the garden feels like being in an oasis of life and pleasure. This is definitely an experience not to miss!

Personally, I tend to connect veganism with sugar-free, processed-free food and other similar ideas. In this respect, the restaurant does offer quite a few vegan meats, which is not perfectly in agreement with my philosophy. (All the desserts have processed sugar in it as well.) If you happen to have the same philosophy and have qualms about going to this restaurant, remember that the taste is perfect and that, being vegan, this restaurant is better than 99 percent of all other restaurants in regards to philosophy and health. All of the vegan meats make the restaurant attractive even to meat eaters, so it’s a good bridge for people who are just becoming vegan or are interested in veganism.
