The host was really welcoming when we arrived and throughout, describing the food to us. The tofu banitsa was delicious. The cafe itself is a lovely setting.

Lovely setting, great food! - Edit
Had a nice selection of bruschetta with various yummy toppings and shared a hummus-dominated dish plus deliciously preparee potatoes with a vegan cheese-like dip. The place is set up nicely like a gallery/restaurant cross. Nice people working there too.

Overpriced, overrated, overdecorated. - Edit
I don't get the rave reviews.
Read moreThe garden decor is straight cornball fauxhemian hippie from 2004: prints of ships from antique stores, mismatched and uncomfortable bric-a-brac furniture, odd cushions like the ones your aunt brought back from Nepal, tree branches turned in to chandeliers and the occasional piece of what could be very expensive and overly ornate wall unit inexplicably outside, slowly weathering because the owner "doesn't care about money".
The menu is a long-winded, oveproduced and hard-to-find-what-you-want, spiral bound, fifty-six (was it only fifty-six?) page booklet made to look like a permaculture magazine from the 1980s. The descriptions of the meals are so pretentious I actually thought it was a parody and we were getting a real menu in there somewhere. Nope!
Sure, maybe after twenty-something years being vegan and twenty-something countries ticked off the list of obnoxious vegan foodie-ism have made me jaded, but but I can only give my own impressions, and this place didn't make a good one. Ten seconds in and I thought I was in a scene from Portlandia and was about to be given a biographical novel about my potato.
Anyway, to the real part - how was the food?
Well, the food is very expensive and extremely disappointing: my 'pizza' was a stingy garden salad laying on top of a disc of crumbly, salty wholewheat flour; the veganised Bulgarian main was rich but so small it fit in the palm of my hand. The service is slow and forgetful: the side of bread turned up long after we'd finished eating and when asking for missing cutlery our new waiter insisted on locating our first waiter to find it for us instead of just getting it themselves, for some reason, which was just bizarre. And the food took an age to arrive after ordering, which also took an age.
So, in the end, I can't suggest you eat here even if you somehow like the fauxhemian cornball decor.

Amazing place! Such a huge menu, some national dishes, some international twists - Edit
The menu is huge we wish we were in sofia longer to go back. Bread and traditional pastries are home made there, as is the (delicious) aqua fava mayo.

Cozy Veggie Restaurant - Edit
Many vegan options (or vegetarian that can be made vegan) on the menu. Flavor of the dishes fell a bit short, the mains were very salty and portions very small. But their homemade lentil tempeh was really unique and tasted great. We did not really enjoy the raw tiramisu cake or raw cheesecake, but maybe because we were not used to raw desserts. However, our waitress was lovely and the homemade plum lemonade was delicious (I would go back just for that!). I really wanted to love this place because there was such a cozy vibe and the staff were friendly and passionate about the restaurant’s mission, but was let down by the food.

The restaurant has an art exhibition inside, which makes the place really interesting. There are a lot of vegan options and different types of cuisines. The bean soup (typical Bulgarian) is fantastic!

Love it! - Edit
Big menu with clearly marked vegan items, beautiful space, very friendly staff and most importantly delicious food!
Read moreThe menu looks like a newspaper and they have many write-ups about where they source their food and the health benefits of each ingredient. They also make their own bread which is delicious!
Relatively pricey for Bulgarian standards but to be expected given the above. Still lots of locals seemed to frequent.

Quirky Veggie/Vegan Restaurant - Edit
A really thoughtfully designed restaurant with a front terrace, indoor eating area with a quirky/arty vibe and an outdoor garden.
Read moreWould recommend getting there a bit earlier than usual if you haven't booked. The staff were really attentive and hospitable, able to recommend their favourite dishes. English speaking is no problem.
Drinks are pricey (€3 for a lemonade) and mains range from €8 - €15 so defo not the cheapest, but great to be able to try vegetarian takes on traditional Bulgarian food. It's such a relaxing atmosphere and the desserts are to die for - raw vegan tortes eg. Dark choc and fig & coconut and coffee cheesecake (€4 a slice).
Pros: Loads of vegan options (including desserts), Beautiful outdoor eating area , Traditional Bulgarian cuisine
Cons: Expensive (€12.50 average main course), Curries are served in small portions

Unique space with delicious but expensive food - Edit
This is a nice place to eat in central Sofia. We sat out the front which is a nice place to soak in the atmosphere and watch the trams roll by, but there’s also a lovely garden out the back to sit in, as well as a gallery. We ordered the potatoes with mustard (vegan) mayonnaise and thyme, which was delicious, and the tortilla which was ok.
Read moreAll in all we paid 31 lev, which is the most expensive food I’ve eaten in Bulgaria. However, all the ingredients are ecologically-sourced, which may explain some of the price’s steepness.
Pros: Unique art space and garden, Nice, nutritious food, Cute cat 🐱
Cons: Expensive for Sofia

Really cool vibe, plenty of really tasty vegan options! - Edit
Really glad that my first choice of dinner restaurant was seemingly closed / unfindable because I then went here and was really glad to do so.
Read moreThe vibe is so cool, it's like a healthy organic hip location that feels very natural and it's clear the staff love working here. The place was fully booked for dinner (tells you enough) but they let me sit at the bar and brought out my options after recommending various items off the incredibly novel menus. It was great to see vegan options of traditional Bulgarian dishes!
I had a starter of some healthy alternative bread with a traditionally dip (can't remember its name!) and then the seitan fillet marinaded in wine - not my favourite and didn't quite look like the photo, but nice enough.
Pros: Lots of cool options, some traditionally inspired, Very cool vibe
Cons: Not enough people know about it!

Awesome vegetarian place all organic and whole grain - Edit
We came twice. First time we loved this place, the artful Interieur, the delicous food, all organic, natural with tons of vegan options and bread of ancient wheat varieties. Very nice and english speaking very helpfull staff. You can sit outside in the loveley covered garden as well. We have enjoyed the dip platters with gluten free bread, bulgarian pastry and incredible dessert. Also caffein free coffee is available and herbal teas. Next day we´ve tried the main courses, tempeh curry and fried tempeh, the curry was very oily, the soup and bread very salty we could not finish, it was not the best value for the money for the portion sizes as well. Maybe we had just a bad choice that day and the other meals are good. Actually I would give 3 stars, but for their good intentions and passion I give one more😄Pastries and desserts are incredible delicious.
