Heerlijke burrito - Edit
Veel keuze voor veganist en vegetariër. Wij hadden een burrito waar een overheerlijke salade bij zat. Eten is biologisch en bediening zeer vriendelijk. Ook oogt het restaurant heel gezellig.

Great vegan pizzas and vegan desserts - Edit
I'm excited that we found such an amazing place with several vegan options in Takaka. There are two vegan pizzas here, and, furthermore, plenty of desserts!

Pizza - Edit
Didn't love their classic vegan pizza, found it a bit bland and trying to be healthy but there is another option with vegan cheese which is possibly a nicer option if you're after a more classic pizza option

Lots of vegan options - Edit
Had a vegan pizza. It was all right all but a little to sour for me ($25 for medium size). Iced chai was delicious.

Indifferent service - Edit
The food was ok but the service was really what let this place down. We were ignored when we walked in as the two staff chatted to each other. The menus were well used and looked dirty. I didn’t think the vegan options were that great for breakfast- I had the granola and got about a teaspoon of coconut yoghurt with it. The banana had brown bits on it. The cabinet food looked nice but not a lot of vegan.

Overpriced for what you get - Edit
Extremely overpriced pizza, I mean $35 for a large really??? It is not even that big. Same for the "large" salad which was just a small bowl. Also it is really annoying to not have a printed menu, you just have to stand there in the middle of the way and break your neck looking at the board, while being an obvious annoyance to people and staff walking there. I like to take time to choose my food while having a first drink, and I had my baby with me so it was just really inconvenient.

Good pizza and vegan options! - Edit
The vegan pizza was incredible and also huge! Initially disappointed that there was no vegan cheese but you didn't need it with the great vegan sauces - aioli, pesto and tahini. Lots of vegan options in the cabinet - including a vegan chocolate cake which is yum. I loved the vibe here, very funky and a cool atmosphere. The only con I would say is that it is pretty expensive. Definitely a vegan go to while in Takaka/Golden Bay! I was super happy to see some vegan kai in Takaka.

Best vegan chocolate cherry cake - Edit
Came here twice in 5 days just for the vegan chocolate cake.
Read moreDefinitely inspired to bake something like that myself. SO GOOD.
Slice of cake was 8.50 NZD but it's a big slice which we shared.
Also had vegan curry pies which were good. I think the pie was 9.50 though not as big as the slice of cake.
Pros: Awesome cake

Great vegan options! - Edit
Loved the vegan hash browns & greens-lots of flavor! The vegan pizza was really good- no vegan cheese but it was delicious without it. There had quite a few sweet treats in the cabinet but we were too full to try them! The cakes looked divine!

Nice cakes - Edit
We shared the vegan pizza, which was very filling and though it did have nice and nutritious toppings, we felt the flavours weren't very well balanced (i.e. it mostly just tasted of the bean mix on it).

Delicious vegan & gluten free options - Edit
Cosy atmosphere with great outdoor seating. Best range of vegan and gluten free vegan options in Takaka. We tried a pie, potato salad, apple pancakes and chocolate cake all of which were gluten free. Service a little slow but they were extremely busy. Great coffee too! Pooch was able to sit outside with us also :-)

Dangerously good desserts!.... - Edit
Takaka in Golden Bay has a surprisingly small amount of vegan options in their local eateries....Dangerous Kitchen has the best selection we have found on our various visits to the area.
Read moreVegan pies, filo's, salads & several sweet treats in the cabinet when we called in for a coffee & mid- morning snack. I tried the 'Cherry Ripe' slice & the Black Forest Gateaux ~ both were excellent. The organic coffee was great.
Always some interesting local art on the walls for sale & the cafe is decorated with permanent art from the wonderful local artist, Dean Raybould. Check it out.
Pros: Moderate prices. Good, friendly service.

Loved it! Great staff - Edit
They have 5 fully vegan meals and plenty more vegetarian options that can be made vegan too! Staff is very helpful and open to adjusting your meal the way you like it. They have a lovely Biergarten too and plenty of cold drinks in glass bottles. I also liked that they had paper straws (with little turtles on them)

We love this place! The decoration and atmosphere are worth going! They had a few good vegan options and the staff was friendly. Try to find sitting in the back patio if it's not too cold, it's lovely with all the plants!

Gorgeous gem - Edit
Sure the food is nice at Dangerous Kitchen (I would even stretch so far as to say this is your best bet for vegan food in Takaka), but what really steals the show here are the decor. Particularly the quirky wall art filled with puns! Lovely lovely place to hang out in the beautiful afternoon sun, and they also offer live music some evenings!

Funky cafe with good food - Edit
I liked the vibe of this cafe, as it had a focus on organic food, the wall art was cool and was the place was popular but laid-back.
Read moreTheir selection of vegan options really impressed me. You can order full vegan cooked breakfasts (hash browns, mushroom, spinach, sauces etc.), smoothies, muesli, a falafel wrap, a pizza, and a few vegan baking/sweet treat options e.g. cake and slices. The menu made it clear which options were vegan, which could be made vegan on request, and also which were vegetarian or gluten free.
I got the vegan buckwheat pancakes with banana, blueberries, vanilla coconut yoghurt and maple syrup, which was delicious! My spirulina drink was okay (too much apple for my liking, but still nice).
The wait for our food (for three people) took quite a while. I guess they were busy but waiting half an hour for two cooked dishes and a salad was too long in my opinion.
However overall I really liked the place and would go back again if I am back in Takaka.
Pros: Good selection of vegan food, Clearly marked vegan/veganised options, Good atmosphere
Cons: Long wait for food, Waitress was rude to customers in front, A bit pricey
