now revising my position on felafel - Edit
To be clear, I never order or desire felafel. After several decades of veganism where felafel has been the only option (yes I know I should be grateful if there was an option), I just can't hack felafel anymore. I'm sick of it. Add on top of that the dryness and flavorlessness' of most felafel sandwiches and you can perhaps understand my antipathy.
Read moreBut when I was told the felafel sandwich at Dalante was so good that people drove the 30 minutes to Lincoln from Christchurch just to get one, I figured I should give it a try. I made that trip full of hope that this was not another dry tasteless felafel experience. I can tell you, it was so good that I am now having to revise my position on felafel.
From the first bite, the flavours zinged. The bread was amazing - so soft, yet strong enough to hold the generous fillings. The bread kinda melted in my mouth. There was no chewing and chomping like there is with the usual pita bread pockets. I believe they bake it on site using a fermented dough. Top marks for the bread.
The salad filling was on point, and the sauces helped make every mouthful creamy and flavoursome. But the felafels themselves - so good. They are amongst the best I have had. So tasty, crisp on the outside, softer but well cooked and super delicious inside, with spices, garlic and amazing flavour. Easily as good as felafel I have had in the Middle East.
The sandwich was so big and filling, I was too full for dinner later that evening.
10/10 for Delante.

Super yummy & big Falafel Pita with plenty of fresh Falafels, flavoursome Sauces, Salad & Pita Bread. Lovely staff and beautiful atmosphere too.

I tried the falafel pita (automatically vegan without adjustments). It was $17 and more than enough food. Bread was great, filling really fresh and tasty. I can’t wait to go back to try the other vegan options
