This Restaurant Is Not Vegan

This place is not vegan. The owner posted today in a local veg Facebook group that he is opening in a new location and will be serving meat and vegetarian options.

He said that he cooks meat at his current location "on separate griddles" and that he needs to have a "slightly diverse menu". Then later in the conversation he backpedaled and said he wouldn't serve meat at his new place. Then he said his menu was 100% plant-based. He responded really negatively to suggestions that he change the business name if he's not entirely vegan and made many contradictory statements. Personally I do not feel comfortable eating here.

(HappyCow would only let me give 2 stars because it automatically gives 1 star to any veg restaurant. This one is labeled vegan when I'm writing this review so the lowest I could give it was 2 stars.)

Great Food

This place was unexpected for a mall but I was very pleased with the food here. There were a lot of great choices to pick from, I will be back when we visit again.

Pros: Food, Prices

Awesome Stop in STL!

We were passing through St. Louis on our way back to Colorado and stopped here! The food was delicious and the owner was awesome! We had Omni meat burgers and cheesy fries🤤

At the end, the owner shook my hand and thanked me for being a customer. Can’t remover the last time that’s happened to me. Definitely would recommend!

Pros: Great food

Cons: In the mall

Interesting

I was drawn to the location because of the sweet potato fries. I'm not a burger kind of guy, especially impossible and beyond but I tried it anyway. My vote on the burger shouldn't count because I don't do burgers and I didn't like it. I think he shouldn't mess with sweet potato fries they are good but if you are going to mess with them offer them both ways. Because adding maple to sweet potato then heating them up with pepper didn't work for me. Lastly the chocolate chip cookie was both crunchy and gooey. I honestly have to say I never had that before.

Pros: Creativity, Positive attitude

Cons: Messed up my good thing

Amazing vegan option!

So great to have a delicious vegan option in the food court! Not a lot to choose from, but the chopped chicken was delicious. There’s a great meal donation initiative in place in the food court as well! Win win.

Deliciousness!

UPDATE on 27Jan23 -
I went back after being informed that they were initially using Quorn for their chicken, which is vegetarian, not vegan. I spoke with the owner/chef and he apologized profusely. He immediately switched to Impossible instead. He said he plans to alternate between Impossible nuggets and Beyond Meat popcorn chicken. He allowed me to see the packaging for the chicken and the caramel sauce (the bottle said "Vegan"). He isn't vegan but his partner is, so this was a learning curve for him.

BLACK BEAN BURGER COMBO -
They offer two burgers: plant based and black bean. The Plant Based Burger is made with a named brand meat alternative (e.g. Beyond Meat or Impossible), which is great, but I wanted to try something different so I opted for the BLACK BEAN BURGER instead. It’s a housemade black bean patty garnished with spicy ketchup and mustard, per my request. It was delicious! This talented chef has concocted a hearty, juicy, plant based patty that is quite delectable. The combo came with sweet potato fries, a pickle spear, and a drink. They don’t have fountain drinks. When I went, there were several different bottled tea options and water.

MAPLE GARLIC ROASTED SWEET POTATO FRIES -
This chef loves garlic. Awesome because so do I! These fries put the sweet in sweet potato! Per their menu verbatim, “thin cut sweet potatoes roasted to perfection with the sweet and savory flavor of maple garlic, and a dash of sea salt.” *insert chef’s kiss right here!!*

WINGS - The wings had a good consistency. Not too chewy. No weird aftertaste. I tried all three flavors.
BBQ - very tasty, solid choice
LEMON PEPPER - tasty. Best choice if you want zero spice.
HONEY HOT - because I love spicy thangs, this was my favorite. Yummy!

CHOP-FRIED CHICKEN HERO -
Think vegan chicken po’boy or hoagie. They use the same chicken as they use for the wings, chopped, tossed in their CJ’s spicy mustard relish, and shredded lettuce (I omitted the tomatoes) inside a buttery toasted hoagie bun.

CRUMBLED GARLIC CARAMEL BROWNIE -
Imma be completely honest… I fully expected to hate this. I mean, I LOVE garlic, and I LOVE caramel/chocolate/sweets. But I just could never fathom them in co-creation. Well, I suppose that is why I’m no chef, because this dessert knocked my socks all the way off!! The brownie was so soft, moist, sweet -yet not overly so, with n ever-so-slight hint of salt which may or may not have come from that succulent caramel.
