Nice baked goods

We visited here a few days ago and were happy to see they had similar goods to another National Trust (Gibside) site we also visited recently, they must use the same suppliers. The sausage rolls are some of the best I’ve had and the curried cauliflower pasty was really nice too. They also had the same chocolate Jaffa cake slices that we’d seen at the botanical gardens (I’d love to know the supplier haha). I’m sure I saw other stuff on the menu but can’t exactly remember what (blueberry slices??). Anyway if you’re thinking about visiting the gardens then you won’t be stuck for nice food although it was quite expensive.

A Peaceful Escape

Beautiful historic site, with tranquil seating areas and a decent selection of vegan options.

We each had a curried chickpea pasty and shared a fruit scone, with blackcurrant jam, which were excellent. Good coffee too. Our son loved the Lemon sorbet ice cream too.

Inside this National Trust site, you will find loads to see and do including a maze, a secret walled garden, an orchard and a kids play area, making it a perfect family day out.

Ample cafe when visiting National Trust site

A good selection of food and drinks which are suitable for vegans. The sausage bun is quite nice, paired with an oat flat white. No vegan soup options when I visited which would have been good to see. Pricing is reasonable.

Good National Trust café

Has all the NT staples and a nice outdoor bit. Non-members can also enter.
