All the buckwheat pancakes are vegan! Buckwheat, water, salt-that's it! There have two vegan options, but you can build your own crepe with things like mushrooms, artichoke hearts, eggplant "caviar", tomatoes, etc.

Il y a une crêpe salée végane (marquée VégétaLienne) sur le menu. Mais il est aussi possible d'avoir une version sucrée végane en dessert. Demandez une crêpe de sarrasin sucrée adaptée, avec banane, crème de marron, miettes de spéculoos, sorbet framboise.

Amboise has very limited vegan options, so I was pleased to see this vegan galette. Luckily, the Vegetelienne galette was delicious, if simple. A crisp buckwheat crepe (which was also marked as gluten free) with well seasoned peppers and mushrooms in a tomato sauce inside. The portion was also very generous.

The place is ok for a quick lunch while visiting Amboise. But they offer just a single vegan option you really have to scan the menu to find. And, to be honest, it is quite a boring option, with just vegetables. With a couple more vegan crêpes with slightly more interesting ingredients they would much improve the place.

We checked into the Novotel Amboise, to discover that not pre-booking dinner meant we had to venture into town. And thank goodness... A gem of medieval architecture and charm but wait! I don't eat duck, steak, gizzards or cheese so how can I possibly enjoy the main square without venturing to the McDonald's on the outskirts. This creperie were quick, polite and affordable (in tourist terms). the kids were happy as we're my wife and I - the Vegetalien took minutes and hit the spot. The crepes were crisp and flavoursome with delicious fillings. Kids had cheese and ham of course. Recommend. Why can't the rest of France make it look so easy?

Waiters there did not understand English yet they tried quite hard to communicate with us and serve us delicious Crêpe without eggs and meat. We had both sweet and savoury one.

We had the vegetarian galette, which was just delicious. We also tried another one, asking them to remove the ham, and it was great as well. Dessert was also amazing. Service was extremely fast and the staff was very nice!

Eating here is simple and straightforward if you're vegan given that they only have a single vegan item on the menu. However, it's a good one. Their vegan or "vegetalienne" galette is one of the best I've tried and the service was probably the fastest I've ever had in France, especially for a sit-down restaurant. The veggies they filled the crepe with were flavorful and fresh, so overall I enjoyed the experience and would recommend it. I only wish they offered a vegan dessert crepe option as it seems the full meal here consists of ordering one savory and one sweet crepe.

Apart from salad and the sorbets (which I didn't have so not 100% certain they are vegan), there is just one vegan option. But it is REALLY good.
Read moreThere website doesn't list the vegan (or vegetarian) galette for some reason, but at the time of writing, they still offer it! I believe that galettes are usually not made with eggs anyway, so there is not a lot different about the recipe. The cheese is not replaced with anything but it doesn't need to be.
(A side note that the restaurant inside Clos Lucé seems to have a few vegan options, but I would still recommend 4 Saisons above that for the sake of having something authentically French).
