Flavour and value - Edit
Visited on my own and ordered the Vegan Duck Red Curry Rice. Total of $22.50 which is very good value in 2024. The meal was delicious and filling.

Wonderful Food - Edit
Wonderful food. We had spicy tofu poke bowl with soba noodles, vegan chicken katsu curry with rice and chickpea massaman curry with roti. So good.
Read moreSecond visit - we had the special ‘rice and two curry’ option; Thai laksa with tofu and udon noodles; and drunken udon noodles with vegan chicken. The flavours were, once again, extraordinary. The food in Cookatoo is truly exceptional and definitely not just for those following a vegan diet. Our party was a mix of plant-based diet enthusiasts and committed carnivores and everyone was equally impressed with the taste and quality of all the dishes. Portions are also really generous and beautifully presented. I cannot recommend Cookatoo highly enough.
Visit three! We had nam tok salad with tofu and udon soup with gyoza, which we shared. Stunning flavours yet again. Planning next visit already.
Back again for more. So tasty yet again. Owners are a lovely Thai couple who prepare and serve this wonderful food always with smiles on their faces.
Final visit before our return to Ireland. Amazing again. This time we shared the yom salad with tofu and the lentil Penang curry with tofu and coconut rice. We also had two cups of Jasmine tea. We will miss Cookatoo so much. Spread the word. This food is unmissable.

Delicious fake meats, huge portions, great Thai flavour - Edit
We loved the vegan duck red curry and the vegan sweet and sour chicken. Both were huge portions (we ordered coconut rice and roti to share but couldn’t finish it all!) and a great value for money. Fake meats were very lifelike and the flavours of our meals were so fresh and delicious. Really glad we made the trip to this small but mighty restaurant

Might be my favorite vegan restaurant - Edit
Wow, this place is a gem! Absolutely not to be missed in Melbourne!
Read moreCookatoo Kitchen is a small restaurant serving various asian dishes (mainly Thai but they also have options such as poke bowls or ramen). The food there is DELICIOUS, tastes super fresh and flavorful, I could eat there everyday 🤩
On top of that, the owners are the kindest people and prices are super reasonable especially the lunch set which includes a serving of curry, rice and salad.
I definitely recommend trying the panang curry and the poke bowl 👌
Pros: Amazing food, Reasonable prices, Kind owners

This place is small in size, but such great space. Owned by a lovely Thai lady and her husband, this place is 100% vegan, has many delicious healthy options and offers ready made food as well as À la carte dining. The food was really tasty and the owner was delightful. I’ll be back for sure!

Impressed - Edit
Everything we ordered was very well made and well presented. The chive cakes were crispy and tasty. The laksa, rich and full of noodley goodness (best shared as the creaminess can be overwelming ). The chikn noodle soup had a very nice flavour, plenty of veggies and lots of noodles. The roti was fairly standard but at $3 a serve, great value. Overall, a very good lunch!

Great food in a lovely cosy atmosphere - Edit
The menu has really expanded since we were last here, and it's so great to see the owners doing well.
Read moreI really loved the appetisers we ordered, especially the korokke (delicious fried mashed potato, and much bigger than anticipated! with a delicious bbq based sauce), and the chive cakes which came with a delicious slightly sweet/tangy soy based sauce.
The laksa was very nice, and I especially enjoyed the tempeh squares? in it.
The pad Thai was sadly quite bland, hopefully that changes because I love pad Thai.
I really felt so cosy in this restaurant, the music and chatter of the other patrons were just all at the right level. The drawings and figurines of cockatoos was a cute touch as well.
The prices for the main meals are super cheap, especially considering the generous proportions.

One of my new favourites! - Edit
Wow! To start with, the owners/staff make you feel like friends from the first visit. There is a really wide range of dishes and at very affordable prices! I got the Japanese curry with katsu chicken. The katsu curry was a Fry's schnitzel but at $16, I'm not complaining! The sauce was amazing but the rice/sauce ratio was a little off with slightly too much rice. I also got tofu as a side and duck as a side which was an extra $2 each (absolute bargain). Will definitely be back! I only wish they were closer.
