vegans not really welcome - Edit
I see a saucy yelp reviewer taking the vegans to task for being disappointed on the basis that they don't understand soul food, but I remember going to little hole-in-the-wall vegan soul foods in DC 30 years ago! Those places did so much with just a little deli counter and a couple folding tables. Vegan soul food has been around. But this isn't the place. :(
Read moreI went a while ago and I wanted to visit twice before reviewing but every time I look at the menu, it's too clearly uninterested in vegans as customers.
Inconsistent labeling schemas across menus. Get ready to play "what can I eat" detective.
Common to have whole menu categories with nothing vegan.
Common for the "vegan option" to subtract a sauce.
I see one review where a customer was charged the same for beans without an entire neckbone as someone who was though I see a recent menu where that's fixed.
The dirty rice, though praised by others, I found to be very bland when I visited.
5% service charge in small print, not a tip!

Communion is a very popular place in the neighborhood. An excellent place to go with friends and have a few drinks. They have a vegan jambalaya which I ordered and was pretty tasty but expensive for the amount given. They also have some veggies that are vegan. Vegan options are clearly marked on the menu.
