Comedor Familiar Vegetariano
Dolores 57 5, Centro, Area 5, Cuauhtemoc (at Lazaro Cardenas), Mexico City, Mexico, 06050
Vegetarian Mexican restaurant with only a small sign on the wall at street level, so can be easily missed. Homey cozy atmosphere, like someone's apartment with the living room converted into a dining space. Served comida corrida style, so it's a fixed menu with no a la carte options. Owners are knowledgeable about veganism and know which dishes are vegan or can be made vegan.

Historic gem on a pretty park - Edit
This place has an incredible history which goes back to 1933 (the owner took the time to tell me a bit about how her mother-in-law opened the first version of it with a German woman in 1933, on Calle Artículo 123, and how it moved to the current location in the late 40's). As noted, it is on the second floor and easy to walk past if you're not looking for – it's basically on the corner of the park and Dolores.
The restaurant is a bit on the small side, but some of the window seats have beautiful views over Parque San Juan. While the food as served can be a bit bland – many customers have eaten here over the decades at the advice of a doctor who advised something like a "bland vegetarian diet with no salt" or something – they also have hot sauce and other condiments you can use to adjust to taste. They tend towards dishes with fresh vegetables and tortillas/tostadas instead of the soy/gluten meats which are popular in some other restaurants.
Not the place to go for a fancy meal, but friendly, cheap, and radiating Mexico City vegetarian history. Go and support this family business at least once during your visit!
Pros: tons of character, friendly, family-run, hearty, simple, cheap meals
Cons: lack of variety, somewhat cramped space

cozy atmosphere, bland food - Edit
There seems to be an understanding among certain people in Mexico that vegetarian and vegan food must be bland. As if people only eat it to settle queasy stomachs. This place is great if you are on a flavor-restricted diet. Although I typically enjoy spicier fare, the food at Comedor Familiar Vegetariano was refreshing in its simplicity. It probably would be therapeutic for digestive problems. To be fair, I asked for vegan food when the fixed menu was vegetarian; the vegetarian offerings might be more adventurous. I greatly appreciated that the chef was willing to accommodate my request. The owners are welcoming and friendly, as are the patrons, who give a warm "buen provecho!" to their fellow diners as they exit.
Pros: friendly staff, cozy, home-like atmosphere, inexpensive
Cons: bland
