Tan tan ramen

The cozy atmosphere makes this place worth a visit.

I tried the Tan Tan Ramen, which was flavorful with, tender noodles. It had just the right amount of spice, making it a satisfying meal.

I've also had their sushi, which was fresh and nicely made. The ingredients were of good quality, and the rolls were well-prepared.

Looking forward to trying some of the donuts on offer next time

I could eat this sushi every day

Lovely owners who really care about the quality of their food and service. I forgot to take a photo but the sushi is as beautiful as it is delicious, I seriously could live on this stuff. Everything is beautifully presented and the flavours are just perfect.

Pros: Delicious subtle flavours, Genuine and caring owners, Beautifully presented food

Pricey lunch, but worth it

Honestly it’s authentic, high quality and you just feel good after eating. It comes with a proper price tag around 26$ for a meal, but they use organic ingredients and the dish I had, had a wholesome taste. I had their onigiri platter with tofu and it comes with Enoki mushrooms in sesame, some king oyster, two onigiri (I was expecting filling though) and a side salad with ginger dressing (?). The taste is great and it’s just like back in Japan. Seems very light - no bloating or upset stomach afterwards. I have to admit I was hungry after a few hours (but maybe because I haven’t had eaten for a while). Place is nice and simple. Service was ok-ish but it’s more self service. You order and pay at the counter and also have to get your own cutlery. They provide water and you can buy some products there. They have donuts too & on the weekends Mochi and sushi.

Pros: Wholesome taste, Flavours authentic and highlighting ingredients , Fully vegan

Love it 💚💚💚

Love the menu, the staff, decor and healthy vibes. I had already eaten when I'd popped in to Comeco Foods but found room to try the Organic Vegan Chicken Karaage. I wasn't disappointed, those cubes of yumminess were divine. Can't wait to go back and try all the food on the menu!

Excellent Sushi!

Words cannot describe the pain it’s been finding vegan sushi options (Anywhere in the world). Comeco completely caught me by surprise and I’m glad it did. My two favorite items were the eggplant and the Smoked BBQ 🤤🤤.

Pros: Sushi!!, Herbal Tea

Surprisingly good

The vegan sushi is very good. We had three rolls and all three were gone in 5 minutes. If you’re looking for sushi, this is a good spot. Not a lot of options, but what they have are great.

Good food, great small business

Love the food and the atmosphere here. The staff are friendly and welcoming. All the food I tried are delicious and I love that they keep dishes simple - without additives and other hidden nasties. More shops should follow suit!

Hontou No Tabemono

Ordered the Miso BBQ Sushi Rolls, the young girl at the counter wasn't confident in what the ingredients actually were, but we ordered them anyway.

The sushi was well presented and tasted real and fresh. The sauce on top was nice, but the filling was just cucumber and shredded carrot only. All of the sushi contains cucumber, which I personally don't like, so that was a bit annoying but that's my problem.

As others have mentioned it could be considered a bit pricey, ($15.9 + 15% (Sunday surcharge) + card surcharge, = $18.75 for 8 small rolls) - but as the Comeco has commented on other reviews, they are using fresh, organic, natural ingredients and make everything from scratch; so if you value that kind of food, then I'd say it's worth it. Personally I just want my food to be delicious (even at the expense of my health!), but I understand and appreciate what they are doing.

I don't think I would get the sushi again, but I will definitely come back to try more of the menu.

Pros: Organic, Fresh, Authentic

Cozy Vegan Café

I love supporting Yu & Masa’s little business whenever I can. Their team are so warm, friendly and attentive that it gives a warm/fuzzy feeling dining here. Their sourdoughnuts are pretty good. The Japanese katsu curry 🍛 at the time was a tad salty but I’m sure it has improved by now. Their iced hoijcha latte was hands down the best vegan hoijcha latte I’ve ever tried!!!!! Because of Comeco that hoijcha is now my new favourite flavour. I still need to try the newer stuff including their vegan soft serve icecreams.

Arigato goizaimasu!!

Pros: Awesome Japanese vibes , Great vegan organic food, Short walk from Newtown station

Simply the Best!

This place jumped to my top 5 vegan eateries in Sydney right at the first try. It’s a Japanese, small, family-run business with great customer service. Their attention to quality, taste, as well as the presentation is next level. It can get pricey, but considering they predominately use organic ingredients is definitely worth it. Plus, the amount of love they pour into it their creations is also rewarding. It’s a must-try place for anyone vegan visiting Sydney.

A bit disappointing

I was excited about coming here, although I’d read a review that said they ran out of sushi early. I was still disappointed when I turned up just before 2pm and the only thing savoury they had left was the curry. We ordered this to share (two felt like overkill) and a few sides for variety. The curry itself was underwhelming for around $23, with little substance, not much flavour and only a small amount of katsu. I asked for chili oil with the curry and didn’t receive it. Of the sides, the least boring was the tempura vegetables. I was surprised they came with no dipping sauce and they were bland and a bit slimy in texture. The chicken karaage consisted of a couple of dry unappetising chunks of mock meat with toothpicks in them, and I couldn’t even see the karashi mustard sauce I’d ordered with it there was so little. I couldn’t believe I paid over $6 for a tiny amount of lotus chips. The only real upside was the iced matcha and sesame lattes with gelato, which were delicious. I so wanted to rate this place highly, but I’m going to need a much better experience than this if I’m to do so.

Pros: Delicious iced matcha and sesame lattes

Cons: Insubstantial curry, Overpriced unappetising sides

Hi Tiggy,
we’re so sorry for your experience. There was no chilli oil added to your curry, no mustard sauce on the fried chicken, so we have to assume that we messed up on this occasion. Really sorry for that.
Could you please contact us at the following email address so that we invite you at the cafe again and do the proper service?
We would be very happy if you would give us another chance to please you!

Delicious but pricey

Absolutely delicious food but severely overpriced.. $15 for sushi, $25 for the Katsu curry which as beautiful as it looks and tastes barely fills you up.

Also menu is a bit confusing and disorganised- half the stuff is only available weekdays and half on weekends.

Thanks for your feedback!
I was able to alleviate my allergy symptoms by eating organic clean food, and COMECO CAFE was born out of my desire to deliver this to people who also suffer from allergies.
So we do not use all the additives, such as MSG, preservatives and colorings. We use fermented seasonings to add umami instead of using MSG, use fresh ingredients instead of using preservatives, and use organic seasonal vegetables & fruits from local as much as we can. The breadcrumbs covering the organic tofu cutlets are also handmade from bread. We make everything from scratch.
That makes our price slightly higher, but we believe that is good for your health and our earth.

Good food, but a bit disorganized

We went for a "late" lunch at around 1:30 PM, all the sushi rolls were gone, they only had katsu curry, drinks, and some doughnuts available. The place still had around 90% occupation... I don't know whether they usually run out of stuff, but, since they still open later in the evening from 7-10 PM, they should definitely make more rolls... I plan on going back, but I really felt like the most important part of the menu was gone, good curry though.

Pros: Good food

Cons: They run out of stock fast apparently, Small

What we do nowadays is order 1-2 hours before leaving, sometime before noon, then it usually works. But they only serve the sushi Saturday and Sunday, as far as I know.

ComecoFoods

18 Jun 2023

We apologize for not being able to provide you sushi you wanted as it was sold out.
To avoid disappointment, we would recommend to pre-order online in advance.
We are open on Friday & Saturday night (7pm-10pm) as a dessert bar, we only serve dessert. We'll add savory items soon, but not sushi.
We only serve sushi on weekends. On weekdays, onigiri lunch plates are served in addition to curry.
Since all of our products are additive-free, we cannot sell what's left from one day at a later date. Using organic ingredients to make everything from scratch, all by hand and without any processing, means that having an excess of products is the biggest threat to our business.
However, we do not want to disappoint our customers because we are sold out, so we would really appreciate it if you could place your order online in advance.
We appreciate your understanding very much!

Tasty sushi treats

We got the small sushi plate today for take away and it was delicious. Easy ordering and collection. It was a busy spot around 12, so I’d say get there a bit earlier if you would like a table inside!

Pros: Nice vegan sushi, Donuts and other treats available

Cons: A little expensive , Parking is quite tricky

ComecoFoods

18 Jun 2023

Thanks for your feedback! We are do happy to hear you enjoyed our sushi. Covid required tables to be spaced further apart, which limited the number of seats, but now there are more seats than before, including outside seating.
There are plenty of spaces to park on the street behind the café. You can check the parking spaces in our Instagram highlights :)

Good quality natural organic ingredients without preservative or nasty additives may not taste so much different on sushi, but we believe it has health benefits and amazing fresh flavors.

A must go if you in Newtown!!

One of my favourite places to go to - the donuts are just to die for (even for non vegans - you would never tell the difference!) the staff is friendly and they do it with a purpose - everyone has a story. Vegan sushi is really good - so many good flavours from miso to bbq sauce to spicy. And the bread: I am usually not a fan of non gluten bread, but this one though is just so good - super fluffy in consistency, lasts long in the freezer and it so yummy 10/10

Pros: All vegan and all gluten free, Amazing vegan sushi - like amazing, Best rice bread ever
