Okay coffee break at the Christchurch Airport - Edit

Several clearly signed vegan options for slices, banana bread and raw energy balls. Had the banana bread with a vegetable spread and a apricot almond ball. The first came heated and was delicious, the ball was a bit dry and didn’t taste especially well.

Delicious raw slices - Edit

There's branches across the South Island now, including Dunedin (Roslyn), Timaru, Lincoln, Rolleston, Rangiora, Kaiapoi and several in Christchurch. I've always found at least one vegan option, though not always a savoury one. The chocolate caramel raw slice is a must try - I don't normally care for raw treats but this one is delicious.

Pros: Lots of locations, Tasty sweet treats

Cons: Limited savoury options

Some good vegan options - Edit

After Limmeys review, I posted on FB to ask the vegan community in Christchurch as to the best Coffee Culture laces to go to. Overall people seemed really happy with the options and in particular, people loved: the caramel slice, that they offered almond as well as soya milk, the kumara pumpkin soup, the iced carrot cake muffins, the peanut butter cups, the cashew and sweet potato pie and the chai which is not made with syrup. Best branches were Merivale, The Palms, Riccarton, Airport, Beckenham, Lincoln and Addington. However people also said it is possible to go to a Coffee Culture and find there are no vegan options because they have run out.

Pros: vegan friendly, raw caramel slice, more than one plant milk option

Cons: can run out of vegan options, it can vary between branches

not vegan friendly - Edit

They didn't have any vegan items, when I asked they told me they "don't keep tabs on that stuff."

Um okay.

They also have a sign up that basically tells you there's goi g to be cross contamination with food types.

Yolanda 17 Aug 2016 - Hi Limmey - eek, that is not good! I have been to a few CCs and had good food as a vegan. I also called the head office of CC before submitting the listing and was assured there would always be a vegan option unless they had run out. I will post on the Vegetarian Christchurch and Chch Vegans and Friends FB pages to see if this is a Riccarton problem or if a different location should be listed or not at all and will inform Happy Cow accordingly. Thanks!

CoffeeCultureNZ 17 Aug 2016 - Hi Limmey,

Thanks so much for your feedback, I will follow up with the manager of Riccarton as we definitely do 'keep tabs on that stuff'. Riccarton often stock the Peanut Butter Cups, Energy Balls, Pumpkin Kumara Pattie, Pumpkin & Kumara Soup, Raw Salted Caramel Slice and the Banana Loaf - all which are Vegan. I'm sorry the staff weren't aware of which products were vegan to point this out to you. I'm sure Ali (the Manager of Riccarton) will be most disappointed as she is a big advocate for making sure there are options for those with dietary requirements. What time did you visit the store? - It would be good to know that if their Vegan products are selling out earlier in the day - they may need to be ordering more to make sure there are these options in the evening.

The cross contamination sign is due to the fact that the food is sitting in the cabinet and made in the same kitchen as non-vegan/vegetarian/dairy-free/egg-free/gluten-free/nut-free items. We take all care and there are procedures in place to try and ensure there is no cross-contamination however we can not 100% guarantee that there would never be traces of other ingredients and we'd like to be upfront about this fact! It would be difficult, if not impossible, for restaurants and cafes to guarantee there aren't traces if they have items containing any of the above - similar to the disclaimer on food packaging "May contain traces of...".

If you have any other concerns or questions about what products we offer please feel free to email me at

Kind Regards,
