Caffi Ciwt Cymraeg; OK for Vegans.

Clustia' Mul is a Welsh cafe based on Porthaethwy (Menai Bridge) High Street and is owned by the well-known local comedian Tudur Owen. They have a breakfast and lunch menu in addition to cakes, desserts, and specials.

I nipped in on a slow Wednesday morning for some coffee and cake going for an Oat Flat White and a Lemon, Raspberry & Hibiscus Cake (the only vegan option in the cake display). The coffee was okay, and the cake was pretty nice. They seem to usually have at least one vegan bake in, with other options including an Almond & Blackberry Bakewell and an Apple & Elderflower Flapjack.

The vegan options on the breakfast menu at the time of visiting were a Vegan Sausage Sandwich, and Beans on Toast. The vegetarian options of Avacado on Toast and Clustia' Mul Veggie Breakfast could also easily be made vegan if one simply requested no eggs. The veggie breakfast and vegan sausage sandwich were also available over lunchtime, and the one labelled additional vegan dish on the lunch menu was a Vegan Sausage with Caramelised Red Onion Toasted Ciabatta. Again, it appeared some vegetarian options could be turned vegan if you enquired, such as the Jacket Potato with Beans or the cheese salads. In terms of drinks, the cafe stocks plant milks and also serves homemade smoothies and a variety of matchas.

The vegan options at Clusia' Mul could definitely be improved. For starters, they could add vegan options to the desserts and specials menu and stock more vegan cakes. The dishes on the menu could also be more varied as the current options centre too heavily on bread and vegan sausages. I feel they could even have added a vegan salad to their current menu based on the plantbased ingredients they already carried for other dishes (such as avacados and the base of the vegeterian salads). Overall, Clustia' Mul is a cute cafe that at least makes a little effort for vegans, which is appreciated in a town that has very recently lost their only vegan cafe.

Pros: Vegan Options Labelled, Free Wifi, Welsh Language Service Available, Nice Vibe, Nice Staff

Cons: Vegan Dishes Could be Better, No Vegan Desserts, No Vegans Specials
