Local Gem

Good vegan options and carries items that I have not seen elsewhere. Carries many local produce and grocery items.

Pros: Carries unique items

Cons: Paid parking

Great for specialty products

If the Safeway across the street doesn't have something, you can usually bet City Avenue Market does.

I've found some really good deals here ($3 for 1kg of green lentils, for example) but generally I don't do all of my shopping here. You come here when you want something out of the ordinary, like vegan oyster sauce, or a wide range of vegan junk foods.

Pros: Lots of specialty items, The occassional great deal

Cons: The produce can look pretty sad, Claustrophobic! Avoid during busy hours!, Generally more pricy than other stores

A few more options

I found that this market had the right idea for providing more plant based items; however, it was hard to find specific items and the Safeway around the corner had nearly the same amount of products at cheaper prices. This market had more “fancy” options (eg: plant based Brie), but the price was rather steep.

Lots of vegan options

They sell lots of vegan stuff that are harder to find in the area such as:
- Vegan Pudding & Co. puddings (so good!)
- Spread ‘Em Kitchen dips
- Vegan Toona cans
- Vegan Rob’s Puffs
- Lots of vegan ice cream
- EatPastry cookie dough

They of course also sell the basics, so it’s a very convenient place to go. They also have a points system which is nice.

Pros: Lots of vegan items, Close to sky train

Kid in a candy store

It’s nice not to have to travel all the way downtown Vancouver to shop specialty vegan grocery items
