I didn’t really like the vegan burrito and would opt for a bowl next time. It’s a good place to eat with people with various dietary preferences but not my #1 for vegan food.

Cool vibe, average food… - Edit
Don’t get me wrong, the restaurant had nice ambience and I certainly appreciate the vegan options, but the food was just disappointing. I had the “Vegan Queso and Chips” which was just okay. I also ordered the “Grilled Nopales”, “Coliflor Al Pastor” and “Vegan Mushroom Carnitas” Tacos which were fine, not fantastic. The best one was probably the mushroom carnitas. My friend had the “Taquitos de Camote” who was not impressed either. Overall, I probably wouldn’t come back.

The decor of Chulita is super cute and Instagram worthy but food wise, as a previous review has already mentioned, the food is mediocre. Vegan items are not labeled clearly and when I asked staff if they had a vegan cheese they seemed unsure of what vegan meant. The portions are also small. If you’re craving Mexican go somewhere else. Even Sugar Taco is better than here (and I’m not a big SugarTaco fan).

Saw this place listed on happycow as having vegan options so we decided to give it a try. Got take out this week. Here's my Chulita's review. It's a little restaurant with open air seating located besides other restaurants on a busy section of Rose Ave where all the hipsters hang out. The menu is not all clearly labeled, though some items appear to be vegan and have the word vegan here and there. We got a mix of things to try. Had to really emphasize the word 'vegan' as the staff seemed to have no idea what we were asking (eek).
Read moreThe food tastes more California style than Mexican. The burrito and the bowl both had a cauliflower slaw as a base in addition to black beans - a bit strange but tasted ok. The mushroom tacos were flavorful and delicious though small. The potato taquitos were tasty, but the side of sauce smelled like dairy / non-vegan. Overall the meal was ok. I liked the tacos and taquitos.
