Non-veg

Serves meat, vegan options available. Very little English spoken but if you can manage to relate your vegetarian request, staff will happily oblige. Ask for udon noodle soup with veggies or veggie tempura on top -- say no fish sauce. Near Naritasan-Shinshoji Temple, across from tourist information booth. Open Mon-Sun 10:00am-8:00pm.

Friendly with tasty vegan options

Contrary to what someone said here, I found them to speak quite good English, and to be very willing to create vegan options. I had a nice eggplant dish and just ask him to leave the shrimp out. These people are very friendly and willing to please. They also let me keep my bags there until my train left. Really nice folks.

Not sure why this is listed.

Whilst the staff are very friendly and speak some English and the food and interior are great, I'm not sure if this is the proper place to list this restaurant. The only two vegetarian options are steamed Edamame beans and vegetable Tempura. Both are considered starters, so you'll have to order rice and soup additionally. For this kind of Japanese restaurant these are regular options, so I'm pretty sure you could walk into any Tempura restaurant and ask for vegetable Tempura with rice and soup. Actually I will try this the next time I'm in Japan - have the tourist information or a Japanese friend write it on a piece of paper and pick a random Tempura restaurant and voila: Have a veggie meal :-)

Rated 3 since it veggie options are very limited. Food quality is great.

Pros: English menu

Cons: Only 2 veg options
