Reasonably priced comfort food

I’ve tried pretty much everything on their menu, it has a limited choice but the essentials are there!

My favourite has probably been the mac n cheese and sliders my least favourite - they’re just too messy to eat!

There’s usually always something sweet to treat yourself, like a cupcake, cookie or donut and they often gave complimentary starter popcorn whilst you wait for your food to be prepared, which was a nice touch to get you thirsty!

The building had quite a few problems so I know it’s not their fault but it was always hot or miss whether they’d be open or not but when they were, it was a funky eclectic bunch of dinosaurs and random things, even the bathroom was wtf?! Quirky and unique…

Pros: Unique interior, Cheap comfort food, Complimentary popcorn

Cons: Limited menu choice

Not all it’s chomped up to be

Ordered takeout from here and sad to report that the vegan mac n cheese tasted more like coconut milk than cheesiness and the gluten-free noodles were falling apart. Nothing else was particularly worth getting again imo. We got a burger and a salad. Would love to support them but it’s not my speed.

Pros: All vegan

Cons: Not delicious

It will do

Came here twice to give it another chance, overall, you can make it better at home for less.
The 4 bean chili we had as a side and it was just like a can of mixed beans had been opened and served....bland and underwhelming. Glad it was a small side dish.
The poutine was served in a oval basket filled with holes, only to be covered by a thin sheet of paper - had to be careful not to get too messy, having said that though, there wasn't a lot of gravy and the chips were really oily and terribly cut. The cheese though was interesting, I believe the lady said that they made it out of tapioca and so the consistency was like....a rice cake (thick, stretchy-ish and actually fun to eat), there was another type of cheese in there, not very memorable.
The pulled "pork" sandwich was okay, don't remember much of it, neither mind blowing nor bad - it was my first time having jackfruit that imitated pulled "pork" so I was more excited about the thought of it than the actual thing itself.

I would probably come back here for the rollercoaster bowl, just because it had some ingredients that I can't be bothered to make at home. I really liked the zucchini spirals and the freshness of the overall bowl, it feels clean and makes my skin feel happy.
Finally the smoked tofu bahn mi was as the menu depicted, VERY thinly sliced tofu on a baguette - this whole dish was not tasty, filling or worth the money.

The decor is quite something, maybe a bit too pink/red for my eyes to handle.

Good food. Experience could have been better.

The meals are delicious and well prepared. The staff is accommodating to dietary concerns. However, for claiming gluten free options I’m confused as to why they use flour in many dishes like they’re veggie patties.

The kitchen was playing music so loud on a horrible sounding device that it made the experience unpleasant. I wanted to scarf down my meal and get out ASAP.

Wow

I started ordering the meal service from CHOMP as per a friends recommendation earlier last month. I am pleasantly surprised at how creative and flavourful each dish is. 100% would recommend.

Mac n Cheese

Had the baked mac n cheese here almost a year ago... I’ve been dreaming of it ever since. Be careful about the restaurant hours though!

Delicious!

I visited for some take-out and went with the Memphis pulled ‘pork’ sandwich. Usually disappointed with vegan BBQ sandwiches (way too sweet) I was impressed with Chomp’s version. The walnuts were a great addition. The fries (subbed for mash) were really tasty with their signature seasoning. Will be back for sure!

Pros: Organic , Friendly staff, Nice space

'Ok'

I don't usually give a review to places I've only been once or only tried one item but the Smoked Tofu Banh Mi was really disappointing. I went here specifically because I wanted to try a vegan banh mi, but very little was reminiscent of a bahn mi. The main issue was that the smoked tofu overwhelmed the sub and I couldn't really taste anything else. Besides that, the rest of it reminded me of some sort of Korean-style dish.

I'd go back again when I'm in town but I wouldn't get this.

Pros: Cozy, Friendly, GF

Yummy but Teeny Tiny

Chomp is yummy however, it is WAY too expensive for the portions they offer. It should literally be half the price for what you get. My meal after tax and tip was over $15 for half a sandwich and a tiny bowl of mashed potatoes. I hope they extend their menu and either drop the prices or up the portion sizes.

delicious!! and gluten free?

I took my soon to be mother in law, and sisters in law. All of which are omnivores! They loved it. I thought that the popcorn as a start was super cute and charming. I hope to see LOTS more menu items in the future, as well as being able to take debit but I know that’s what’s to be expected in a new place. I came in hoping to try the chicken and waffles but they were out of it, but that’s no problem. Just means we have to go back next time ;-). Plus the Mac and cheese was OUT of this world!!

Pros: delicious, accessible food for everyone!

Cons: more menu items in the future

Destined for Greatness

We visited Chomp at its new location on East Hastings, and were met with a really cool, new restaurant showing off an interior design centering on circus whimsy. It felt like the place was not yet finished though, which was, of course, to be expected given its recent move. Popcorn was served before we ordered, which was a nice touch! It disappeared very quickly. We put an order in for the Baked Mac ‘n Cheese and the Chik’n Waffles, but were informed after some time that the waffle machine had broken. Disappointing, but we switched to a Pulled “Pork” sandwich instead. The orders came, and both had some interesting flavours! The Mac ‘n Cheese was topped with Daiya, which we thought could have been topped with another cheese alternative that would not have given it such a strong aftertaste. Otherwise it was creamy and flavorful. The sandwich had a mix of flavours that somewhat over powered each other. The purple mash that came with the sandwich was a huge hit, though!

I definitely think that with some time, Chomp will become a go-to for vegan comfort food, as it’s well on its way to being a destination spot for us! Looking forward to trying a few more things on the menu (hopefully the waffle machine will be in working order for next time!) and seeing the decor finally fall in place.

Pros: Cool Design Concept!, Vegan Comfort Food, Purple Mash Potatoes

Cons: Kitchen Equipment not in Working Order

Great food

This is a great little vegan place. Menu is salads, wraps and a few main dishes. The curry potato wrap was excellent and the white bean burger sliders were tasty on a potato roll.

They share a storefront with Fairy Cakes, a vegan bakery which also has gluten free items. Lots of cupcakes - all cakes are chocolate or vanilla, but a variety of about 8 different frosting flavors. Cupcakes were tasty. Chocolate chip and chocolate chip marshmallow cookies were good, but not great. Bakery counter was busy - a number of people came in to get cupcakes while we ate dinner.

Seating is limited. Only 3 tables and a total of 7 seats inside. A couple of small tables outside.

Disappointing, although tasty food

We went to Chomp late last year after seeing their beautiful website online. The pizza and burgers were delicious to be fair, but when they were brought out we couldn't believe how tiny they were, considering what they had cost! The pizza was the size of a side plate and the trio of burgers were literally one bite each. I totally understand that gluten-free, organic food can cost more to produce, but we really did expect to be full after eating what was labelled on the menu as a 'main' and this was more like a snack. We both had to order an additional main, and weren't even full after this! Such as shame, as like I say, the food was really tasty.

Pros: Tasty food, Organic, gluten-free

Cons: Tiny portions!, Very limited seating, Expensive for small portions

Improvement

Their food is pre-prepared and only warmed up, hence crust of the wrap was very dry, seemed very greasy inside, sorry not my cup of tea. Furthermore, I have been vegan for 5+ years and was expecting the owners to conduct their business with pride for vegan selection, compassionate customer service..

Small portions, bland food

Went here with a friend yesterday. I ordered a Brachio burger with wedges on the side. Order came within 10 minutes. My burger came, it was probably 3 inches around (tiny) and super thin. Small enough to eat in just a few bites. The burger patty was just mushed up black beans. Nothing special, definitely not worth $12.00.

Twice in Two Days. Yum!

Chomp is a trendy little vegan restaurant that has a great artsy café vibe. I liked all the natural light from the large windows. It is located just east of Vancouver in Port Moody. In addition to all their food being vegan, it is also gluten-free. This suited me well as I was visiting a gluten free friend, so this eatery made us both very happy.

I went there for brunch, and it was so good, I decided to go back for dinner.

For brunch, I had the Mexi Scramble with cheese. It is a tofu scramble with spice. Chili powder, jalapeños, red bell pepper, and tomato round it out. They have Daiya cheese on hand, so I asked them to put that on top. It was a nice blend of mozzarella and cheddar. For sides it comes with some roasted potato and buttered toast. I will have to make a variation of this when I get back home. A great combination of spices and flavors.

I washed it down with a Coconut Chai latte. The scramble was fantastic, but the latte was really weak and tasted like colored water. I couldn’t taste the tea at all. Dang.

The free wifi and good selection of music had me hanging out for a while though.

For dinner we had three dishes: Chomp Sliders, Full-afel, Poutine.

The full-afel was a bit dry and came as a wrap. We expected it to be more traditional falafel. They tried to work with the dryness of the tortilla and garbanzo bean by adding lots of sauce, cucumber, and tomato. This was my least favorite dish I had.

The chomp sliders were fantastic however. With a name like that, we couldn’t resist ordering it. They were very tasty and slid quickly into out mouths. They are made from white beans with a creamy sauce on top. There was also sprouts and avocado. Very tasty!

Our unanimous favorite however was the poutine. Poutine is a classic french-canadian dish usually made with fries, gravy, and cottage cheese. Chomp’s version is much better tasting and healthier. They used baked wedge fries, gravy, and blend of mozzarella and cheddar cheese. The result was fantastic. We all loved it, and nearly ordered a second helping. However we spotted the Chocolate S’more cookies in the bakery case and got those instead.

I really enjoyed Chomp, and will visit it again the next time I am in the Vancouver area.

Pros: Tasty Food

*Chomp* *Chomp* *Chomp*... uz guud

First of all, you have to give kudos to the people behind this restaurant for having the bravery to open not only a completely vegan eatery, but one that is also gluten free as well with many organic ingredients. Historically, opening anything ever so slightly 'different' outside of a highly populated city's downtown core would mean certain doom, but they seem to be surviving just fine; I guess that means Coquitlam is becoming more and more of a city (sigh~ all the trees are disappearing).

Chomp is located in a new shopping area (previous forest); clean and modern looking -- a nice change from going to Vancouver where I often feel like I should burn my shoes afterwards.

The food is of Western fare and seems to cater to the suburban crowd that cowers at the thought of trying anything 'different', so it's a very good strategic menu that offers recognizable choices for the timid and their offspring; I think most children raised on suburban Western food will have no problem gobbling down most items on the menu - my kids certainly didn't.

For myself, I like to go out to eat food that I don't usually make at home, or that I've never tried before, or food that is just too tedious and labour intensive to make without the support of an assembly line of family members all pitching in, but barring that, the food at Chomp is very tasty. The portions are small and the prices are high (the rent is outrageous, I'm sure), but the quality is good and I usually walk away from there feeling stuffed (recommend the chili if you are really hungry).

The decor - well, I'm never one to care about such things, I'm there to eat, but it looks clean, conservative, and slightly alternative (but not alternative enough to scare people away, all very smart).

The service has always been prompt and personal and after writing this I feel that it's time for me and my stomach to pay another visit to Chomp.

Pros: location location location, quality tasty food, all vegan - OH YEAH!!!

Cons: small portions (for me), medium expensive (for me)

My kids love Chomp, even though it takes a little long to get the food, the many books and art work keep them busy. They love the nachos, mac and "cheese", and the curry potatoe wrap. I love the ceasar salad and the poutine.
Staff is very friendly and the place is always clean.

Rare vegan eatery

A very cute, friendly and welcoming eatery you won't find in Vancouver. I'm amazed they have something like this out in Port Moody. The Mexi scramble was great (with extra hot sauce). The vegan gluten free bread that came with it was amazing and I've tried a bunch. I even make gluten free bread myself. It may be a bit on the pricey side but I'm happy to support a business like this.
