I was very happy to so easily find a place like this in a major mall. I had the Katsu “Chicken” rice and a mini red bean bun. I was incredibly impressed with the Katsu, but the red bean bun was a little runnier than I would like (but still delicious)

Amazing to see a fully vegan mall shop like this. All of the Sushi is great for its price and accessibility of just walking by. The rice boxes with satay chicken/BBQ pork was also delicious.

Read moreThere’s fresh sushi, meals that you can order to get cooked eg. katsu curry, as well as a hot food bar which has ready-to-go dishes for those who want something quick. They also have steamed faux pork buns, which are great if you just want something small but filling.
As it is in the food court of the newer section in Pacific Fair, their hours are unfortunately not the same as the other restaurants in Pacific Fair that are open late for dinner.
Towards closing hours, they would discount the pricing of the left-over food of the day. They have a deal of two takeaway containers of hot food for $13! It is an amazing deal and I’d always try and get it. They usually end up closing around 4.20-4.30ish PM as the food for the day are so quick to go!
Personal faves from the hot food bar are the ginger mixed veggies, black bean beef (sometimes beef steak), mapo tofu and satay. The mapo tofu is silky and spicy, exactly how I like it but for sensitive eaters, you can try more mild flavours like the black bean beef or satay chicken. The sweet and sour pork is also a must try, it is my partner’s favourite. The hot food bar options come with freshly made rice and there’s a little area to the side where you can add soy sauce, hot chilli paste, chilli powder etc. which is all pretty good! I love spicy food so I always add the chilli paste!
I highly recommend Chi Ran. The staff are wonderful, friendly and professional. They make the transaction easy and if there are any ingredients or flavours you’re not familiar with, they can help you decide what you might like. The food court area can be noisy but you can always get yours to take away and sit in the resort area in Pacific Fair which is more airy and open, or take it down to the beach or the park!

At last - good vegan sushi! - Edit
Stumbled across this little place in the pacific fair shopping centre. I have been looking for decent vegan options for take away Sushi (not just avocado....) for ages. This is it. Good selection of vegetables, tofu and fake meats. Very nice and fresh. Some hot meals aswell. Hopefully a similar place opens soon in Brisbane!

It was so hard to make a decision - especially visiting for the first time but I went with the Chicken Katsu on rice and STRONGLY RECOMMEND IT. The “chicken” was extra crunchy, the sauces were to die for and it was a very generous size.
Pacific Fair is very large, aim to enter from the Woolworth’s end as it’s right outside the Wooly’s.

My first ever vegan steam bun, so glad that I could finally try one as they almost always contain animal products. Definately worth the money!
The veitnamese spring roll was worth every cent, great too eat after you've finished your main.as they are a little sweet.

It's easy to see why this place is popular at lunch. Apart from being vegan there is a good variety of popular Asian dishes including sweet and sour pork, black bean beef, chicken satay, laksa noodle soup, mee goreng and sushi rolls. The food is tasty. Choice of eat in or take away.

Chi Ran is a food place inside a big shopping centre and good for a casual, relaxed meal. Not all meals are vegan but are certainly clearly marked. The laksa I had was cooked on order, making it fresh and I did enjoy my vegan 'chicken' nuggets. Not really somewhere you would go for a quality dining experience but it's definitely a good place when you want to eat vegan as an option in a big shopping complex on the coast.

One of the best sushi I’ve had since going vegan, if not the best. Has a HUGE variety of mock meats and flavours, and it’s not expensive. I haven’t had their other food, but it looks good too. I always go out of my way to come here when I’m in Surfer’s.

Nothing fancy but some excellent dishes including inventive & novel sushi options, cooked meals. If you turn up just before closing, they have "arvo specials" that are great value. Note that their opening hours are officially as posted, but in reality kitchen closes at 430pm each weekday, and they often have nothing left to buy at around then.

Everything was delicious and full of flavour. I ordered the beef mi goreng, was incredibly tasty and their mock beef was delish. I ordered a chicken sushi to go afterwards because i didnt want to miss out on tasting their vegan sushi! (The sushi was top notch)

Is located in a food court so I bought my own container to avoid the unnecessary rubbish. Apart from that the food was very good. I expecially enjoyed the sushi rolls. Staff were friendly and accommodating. Shop does use more eco friendly packaging then some other places.
