Great food, not so great service - Edit
Going to a Chinese restaurant with a vast vegetarian menu was a true delight! Don't expect much from the service - our server wasn't very patient and there were only a few tables occupied! Plan ahead if you want to BYOB. I didn't find any obvious options for beer and the waiter didn't have any suggestions. All this is to say that you should definitely go, but have lower expectations from service.

This is my go to spot in Philly! Doesn't look like much from the outside, but once you walk in, you know these folks mean business. The food is always fantastic! Many vegan options. Most of my omni-friends enjoy it too. :)

I liked the texture of their general tso's seitan and how the sweet corn mixed with the brown rice. Allen and Cindy also provided prompt and friendly service.

Love this Place! - Edit
I tend to forget this place is around, since all Chinese places tend to be on the veg-friendly side. But when I do remember it, I have no regrets going here! I love the General Tso's Tofu and Seitan, and the Sesame versions as well. Scallion pancakes also hit the spot. They have good lunch specials I've also gotten bubble tea here when I was vegetarian but I am not sure if it is vegan or not.

Um....Wow - Edit
I am astonished by the reviews. This place is gross. It's dirty, it's dark, and the food is sopping with oil & flavorless. I went here with my boyfriend - who literally eats anything- and he thought the food was terrible. Raise your standards people. This food is low quality trash.

My fave Chinese restaurant - Edit
Everyone in my family agrees this is the best chinese food around (even the carnivores). I had given up on eating chinese food from anywhere that serves meat or fish since something they use (brown sauce ingredient maybe) was making me ill. I visited Su Xing based on reviews and was thrilled...and not sick! I live over 50 miles away but make the trek whenever I can.

Great food - beware the bubble tea - Edit
We’ve had 2 great dinners here. Delicious steamed dumplings, Shu mai, vegetable chow fun, snow pea shoots, eggplant with basil, fried rice, and glutinous rice rolls. Everything except the glutinous rice rolls (which were deep fried but were chewy instead of crispy, as if they sat for a while before they came to our table) was perfect and delicious.

The big disappointment was when we ordered bubble tea and we were told by our waiter that it was vegan, but it looked suspiciously milky. We asked if there was milk in it, and he said, “No, it’s a powder.” I asked if there was milk in the powder and he asked the Kitchen, and then came back and told us there was a little bit of milk in it.
Pros: delicious food, great variety of Chinese dishes
Cons: nonvegan bubble tea; confusion over what “vegan” m

I love Su Xing! If you go for lunch, the lunch special is $8.50-$9.00 for soup, entree, side, and white/brown rice. That's a great deal plus they give hot tea.

Wonderful Vegan Chinese Food! - Edit
A nice Chinese food restaurant located near the Town Hall. I was there at lunch time, and took advantage of their lunch special. They have an expansive lunch menu, and meals come with a soup, appetizer, and choice of brown or white rice. I ordered the General Tso seitan. The seitan has a crispy batter and it's served with broccoli. The lunch special was plenty of food for the price. Very delicious. Make sure to order vegan, because they have both vegetarian and vegan batter for their fried seitan

Vegetarian meets Authentic - Edit
This restaurant is not in the main Chinatown area, but it's worth it to search it out... though it is near an oyster house.... Anyhow, this place is legit. Many Chinese vegetarian restaurants play to the veg*n population's palate in America, which is awesome, but then they forget to add in authentic. This place does both. Hallelujah. This place is actually better in my opinion than many other veg*n Chinese restaurants... probably placed up there with NYC Chinatown veg institutions.
Read moreAnyhow, what do you order here? What do you NOT order?! This place is easily gluten free friendly, but be patient to figure that out. They have traditional American-veg appetizers like scallion pancake (huge portion), dumplings and spring rolls. They have traditional Chinese appetizers like peanuts and seaweed (of the kelp variety!). Delicious American-style entrees include chow fun, string beans, sesame seitan, broccoli, asparagus, fried rice, eggplant dishes and general tso's tofu, with more traditional entrees that include black mushrooms, glutinous rice, glass noodles, taro, dried bean curd, tofu skin, pea shoots and baby bok choy.
This place is awesome.... and they have bubble tea and deep fried rice cake, wrap up your meal with orange slices and locally made fortune cookies. Nice. So, if you are looking for a sit-down veg Chinese meal in Philly, go here and leave happy (and full!).
Pros: Traditional and American dishes, All veg, Portions generous
Cons: Too many choices!, Gluten-free not marked

Good Enough - Edit
I went there with 3 young kids, one in the pram on Saturday for lunch. The restaurant was kind of quiet, with just 3 tables of customers. We had the 2 lunch set meals, they both were ok. (The next day, we went to New Harmony and i think theirs is better than what i had at New Harmony. The ambiences of the restaurant is slightly better too.) Service was ok. Would come again if i am in the town again.

My favorite vegetarian restaurant in Philadelphia - Edit
I love the mushroom dishes, the soups, and wonderful combinations in Su Xing's entrees. Not your usual Chinese fare. I have taken several non-vegetarian friends there, and they enjoy the food as much as I do! I especially like the fact that they present different textures as well as combinations of flavors in each dish. "So interesting!" exclaimed one friend, much to our server's delight. The staff makes you feel welcome and is helpful. The sauces are really delicious!! Great value lunch specials. Definitely worth a visit if you are in Philadelphia.

Philly has a lot of vegetarian-Asian places. Su Xing is really good, has a great atmosphere, and offers dishes/flavors that the others don't, in order to set themselves apart. Definitely recommend that you go here.

Best Vegan in Center City - Edit
Su Xing is my favorite vegan in Philadelphia! I've never seen "tofu skin" on another menu -- theirs is great and presented well (you'd think it was Thanksgiving) with braised tofu skin covering a mound of button mushrooms and nicely surrounded by braised shitake. Yum. Another treat is the unique "As You Wish" pockets stuffed with mushrooms, veggies and contained in yuba or tofu skin. If you're overwhelmed by choices on the extensive menu :) don't leave without trying "As You Wish" -- you won't be disappointed. The hot and sour soup can stand up to anyone's -- staff is always friendly; you can ask for a booth or table beside narrow Sansom Street and just watch passers by while having one of the best vegetarian meals in the city.

Best Chinese in Philly - Edit
While I love New Harmony, Su Xing House offers a healthier alternative to the heavy, greasy, mock-meat filled fare at the other Veggie restaurants in the city. It's nice to have dishes that are centered on vegetables instead of simply a vegan version of a meat dish. I've been there several times for lunch, and they offer a great lunch deal where you get not only the standard soup and rice, but also your choice of appetizer for about $7. The restaurant is also very nice on the inside, as opposed to the grungier appearance of most Chinatown eateries.

Nicest chinese food I've ever eaten - Edit
Stopped in here by chance and had a lovely evening, great food, atmosphere and plenty of tea! There was a vast menu, we had what the waitress recommended which was lovely, very tasty and good value for money. The portions were large so we took our left-overs home and had them the next day. I would highly recommend this place.

Good food - Edit
This is a solid Chinese vegetarian restaurant. Even with a busy lunch time crowd, my husband and I were seated right away. Instead of ordering from the menu, I asked our waitress what a nearby patron was eating and ordered the same dish--mixed veggies & bean curd. I was completely satisfied with the meal. My husband ordered broccoli with garlic sauce, which he said was ok. Of all of the vegetarian restaurants in the immediate vicinicty--Su Xing was reasonbly priced, had good customer service, and decent food.
