Great desserts without lots of gluten free options - Edit
Right next to the Miyazaki clock (you can even watch the show from the windows if it's cold out, but you should definitely go out to see it), this place has delicious vegan desserts with multiple gluten free options.
Read moreThe staff are great and it's a relaxed atmosphere though still a bit upscale. They have a small shop area where you can buy snacks etc.
Pros: Vegan desserts with gluten free options, Views of the Miyazaki clock
Cons: Price may be a bit off putting

Pancakes! - Edit
This place was recommended by a friend, we arrived at opening time of 11am in search of vegan pancakes. We both had the vegan pancakes which came beautifully presented with fruit and granola. The pancakes were good but I preferred the ones I'd had at Ki to Mizu to Tsuchi to. Also I'm not a massive fruit fan. The coffee with soy milk was very good though and they have vegan cakes, muffins and cookies.

Chaya Macrobiotics is a swanky restaurant that has locations in Shinjuku, Hibiya, and Shiodome, Tokyo. We visited the Shiodome location.
Everything on the menu is vegan, except for a few dishes that have fish. We got the Deli Plate for lunch. It’s a little pricey for our tastes considering the portion size, but you can really taste the quality. It felt healthy and tasted delicious. The gorgeous space and friendly staff made our meal that much better. 🌞 They also have baked goods, retort curries, and other goodies you can buy in a little shop area by the register.
Pros: Gorgeous setting in a convenient location, Delicious, fresh, healthy food, Gift shop sells lots of great stuff
Cons: A little expensive

Delicious, healthy, well presented - Edit
Lovely setting. Big and airy. Simple menu but lots of choice for veggies. Totally delicious food with lots of veggies which can be lacking in other Japanese meals.

Right under the Ghibli clock at Royal Park Hotel - Edit
Easy to make a reservation online but the place was not busy on a Sunday night when we visited. A nice space with surprisingly good food that's also very photogenic! My "vegan deli plate" included lots of varied tasty veggies which were very flavorful and the brown stew for my meat-loving boyfriend tasted just like "normal" meat stew even though there was no meat. My vegetarian friend was also happy with her "farmer's vegetable & super food salad & deli plate". Highly recommend the super delicious "fried wild craft potato - rosemary" - it was amazing! Could see the giant Ghibli clock from our seats. Also check out the awesome illuminations nearby at Caretta nearby with shows every 15 minutes in the winter. Would give it 5 stars but it's not possible here since they also offer some fish dishes.

Wholesome and delicious - Edit
This cafe serves really delicious vegan macrobiotic foods. All of the meals are reasonably priced and are full of organic goodness. The setting is serene and peaceful, and all the employees are lovely! They also have a range of cakes that are both vegan and gluten free, I tried the almond and chocolate tier cake.

Scrumptious desserts and good mains - Edit
Fairly easily found from Shimbashi station, although not exactly clear whether we were at ground level or higher. Anyway, if you find the hotel, I’m sure they’ll tell you which floor it is. Went here twice as food was so good and price was reasonable for the quality, including some absolutely scrumptious desserts.
Read moreA bonus of Chaya is that if you go outside and go up one level, you’ll find a big steampunk style clock and this gives a performance starting at 5.58pm and lasting about 5 minutes that is worth seeing and hearing.
Pros: very good food, pleasant ambience , not far from Shimbashi subway station
Cons: On the slightly dearer side but still reasonable

Nice vegan restaurant - Edit
This was my lucky stay, since this restaurant was located in the hotel I was in for the week in Tokyo and I didn't know.
Read moreIt is a lovely vegan restaurant with a lot of different options and I think I've tested them almost all.
There is a little shop, so I even had several things for takeaway as well.
The location (for me since I was in the hotel, ideal!) was great, the place and interior very nice, the staff is lovely (they don't all speak English) and the food is amazing.
They propose a lot of vegan food for lunch, dinner, desserts...
Sometimes the opening hours were not always in line with the business activities I had.
Pros: Great food, Lovely staff, Nice place
Cons: Opening hours not ideal for me, Don't speak English

packaged food simply heated up? - Edit
I was a bit disappointed. First of all, I ordered a pasta dish, which I thought was to be a tomato-cream sauce, but in reality it was for the most part a tomato sauce. Secondly, after eating and paying I wandered around the shop looking at the items they have for sale, and saw the exact tomato sauce which I had just eaten, but in a package. I guess my pasta sauce that evening came from such a package, in which case, why bother eating out?

Love it! - Edit
All vegetarians and vegans know the problem: Japan is a great country, until it is time to eat. Every day is a new challenge. "Chaya Macrobiotics" in Shiodome (Tokyo) was a life saver for me. The sign on the building proudly states: "Fresh seasonable vegetables and whole grains, no meat, no eggs, no dairy, no refined sugar". For reasons beyond my comprehension fish is on the menu. However, the (English!) menu clearly states which dishes have fish in them so one can easily steer clear of them.
Read moreDuring my three week stay in Tokyo I went back to Chaya many times and basically I tried everything on the menu, except for the dishes with fish in it. Every time I had a tasty and healthy meal. My favourites were the deep fried tofu wrapped in seaweed (starter) and the soy milk risotto (main dish).
Portions are rather small and Chaya isn't exactly cheap. A "set menu" doesn't mean several servings (starter, main, desster), but just a big plate offering some extra variety and costs about 1200 yen. Yet, the high quality product and good service make up for it.
The prestigious location might also explains the somewhat higer price. Chaya Macrobiotics is in the same building as the "Royal Park Hotel Shiodome" (on the ground floor), making it extremely easy to find. From the Shiodome station it is a one minute walk. From Ginza main street it is a 5 minute walk. In other words: easy to find, conventiently located.
Pros: easy to find, good, healthy food, English menu
Cons: Not cheap, Small portions
