the vegan burger here

I love this place so much. I have been here so many times, and when I come back to Tucson, I get so excited because it means I get to eat here. I have tried a few menu items, but the only ones that I liked at all were the vegan burger they have and their mini chimis. These two menu items are so unbelievably delicious that I think they were made specifically for my taste buds. They are soooo good.

Pros: delicious beyond belief, friendly staff

Cons: not all vegan, some menu items are not good

Vegan-friendly Mexican

Surprising amount of vegan options for a non-vegan restaurant- and many. Everything we tried was great! Favorites were the yucca fries and mini chimis. Quick and easy takeout option as well- great for post hiking in the Catalinas. Definitely will make a point to go back here next time we are in Tucson.

Well, they tried.

Ordered the vegan nachos. They were overly drenched in vegan cheese. A couple fragments of tomato were in there, but otherwise no sign of pico de gallo as advertised. The chips themselves were floppy. Clearly it had been sitting around premade for too long. Very disappointing. Maybe other options are better?

Pros: Many vegan options clearly labeled, They are trying and I appreciate that

Cons: Nachos a massive disappointment. Yuck.

Best vegan options in a non-vegan restaurant

Most items on their menu are plant-based so it is super easy to choose and enjoy food if you’re vegan. It’s a great place to bring friends and family bc there will be something for everyone to enjoy.

If you do not consume alcohol there are lots of mocktails (non-alcoholic versions of their signature drinks) to choose from.

Affordable and great service. There is an outdoor full service area as well if you have a non-human companion with you:). Indoor seating is comfortable for small or large parties and they have live music every now and then.

Breakfast and brunch menu is awesome. Their desserts are amazing and plantbased. Love Charro Vida…

Delicious vegan options

Thoroughly enjoyed the jackfruit tacos, mushroom tacos and Thanksgiving week vegan special. Knowledgeable staff was friendly and welcoming. Vegan friendly kids menu with Beyond burgers and vegan quesadillas. Don't forget to order the out-of-this-world churros for dessert! The great vegan options should make it worthy of any visit but it suited our party well that included non-vegans as well.

Pros: Delicious vegan options , Friendly staff, Atmosphere

Vida Bowl

While the menu looks so good the vida bowl was subpar. There was no flavor. My husbands was the same. Won’t be back.

Vida dinner

Good location, although for us too cold and loud inside the restaurant so it was nice to have the outside seating option. Food wise Vida Enchiladas, Nachos Vida and Yucca Street fries all good. Really liked the Capirotada/Mexican Bread Pudding too. All good sized portions too. Would like to try a Vida bowl next time, although we won't be regulars due to the prices being a bit high for us.

Pros: Outside seating, Food options

Cons: Prices, Not an option to sit inside

Top notch experience

Vida is going for an overall healthy vibe, so the menu has numerous vegan(plant based on their menu) and vegetarian meals. Even the happy hour (until 6pm) has 4 vegan items including tacos. I was there with two other vegans. We were all pretty blown away. If you’ve had tumerico (which I love) I think this compares well. It’s perhaps a bit more upscale/sit down than tumerico which is a bit more Mexican street-food diner. The staff was helpful and knowledgeable. They anticipated concerns such as the soup appearing to have meat(jackfruit) or stating that the cheese and sour cream on the plates were confirmed vegan before bringing them out.
2022 edit: even more vegan friendly. Have added Beyond carne, JUST egg, vegan chorizo.

Cons: Etwas teurer

Good but expensive

There are good and gourmet burgers, bowls (vida bowls) with variated and savory ingredients. However, it is expensive. A lunch for two people can easily go to the >60 USD. Love their yucca fries.

The bowls are the best thing on the menu…

This restaurant has a huge vegan selection and super fresh and good food! I can’t believe it took us so long to try this place out but I definitely recommend trying once . The chimichangas are absolutely perfect but they’re a little smaller than I expected. The price is up there. We both got burritos and honestly it’s massive but we still weren’t full? I don’t know if it’s just us or what but that’s probably my only con.. And our bill was super expensive after drinks too but definitely worth trying once.

The bowls are the best thing on the menu..

High-End Veg Mexican Gem in Tucson

We are visiting Tucson for the Gem Show and as the vegan on the team, I had to find a dinner to satiate everyone— this place is PERFECT. Huge menu: nourishing and plant-based, and adding animal protein is an option for every dish. Everybody is happy and full of healthy food! Wish they would open a Houston location! ORDER THE BRUSSELS SPROUTS! #Veganuary

Pros: Bring your omnivore friends, Whole food ingredients, Excellent ambiance and service

Full of Flavor

Great restaurant -- so many vegan options to choose from, it was difficult to decide. We shared a grain bowl and tacos, all vegan, all fabulous. Lots of interesting flavors. We can't wait to go back and try more.

just wow!

absolutely delightful. not you average options for a mexi restaurant. so i didnt love the texture of the jackfruit on top of the chimis (soft, i added it) but the taquitos with jackfruit we’re amazingggg! such good flavor! probably because it was just a little jackfruit. the chimis by themselves were really good as well, pretty much just cheese in the middle but their cheese is amazing. good planet, never tried it but it had no weird plasticky flavor most packaged cheese have, it was so good! i did have a quesadilla when i came back and it was really odd and creamy, did have a little bit of the plasticky flavor so i was confused but maybe its the difference in the type of cheese? not sure but the taquitos and chimis were to die for! hubby got the quesabirria tacos and he lovedddd them, still talks about them haha! they werent my favorite but they were probably just not my kind of flavors, they were really flavorful. other than that it has a really nice atmosphere and design. our server was really sweet and the lady i ordered takeout from was wonderful, really helpful with suggestions. oh also their guac is amazing! it’s a chickpea/avo guac mix but i couldnt even tell. i was so happy i got the nutrients from a little chickpeas in it, that was wonderful. will definitely be back every time we’re in tucson!

Pros: beautiful ambiance , different options you dont expect!!, so flavorful

Cons: a little pricey

So many vegan options!

We ate here after getting off of our plane and the food was fantastic. I’m the only vegan out of 6 and everyone tried our vegan apps & loved it. The appetizers were the best to share! I was nice to have options for all. The menu is very busy but clearly labeled! Some of the best vegan food I’ve had! Super cute atmosphere.

Pros: Lots of vegan options , Food that anyone will love, Options for all!

Cons: Expensive

FIVE STAR Vegan Mexican Food!

This place has sooo many options for vegans and vegetarians alike. I loved the Jackfruit Quesabirria tacos, and the Nachos are amazing! The chips alone are fantastic. Thick, fresh, and crispy. Can’t go wrong at Charro Vida.

5 stars if I could!

Charro Vida was one of my first vegan experiences 2 years ago and I've been hooked since then.

Drinks are a bit pricey, but the food is well priced and always delicious.

The vegan enchiladas are to die for, this last time I had a bowl with jackfruit and it all blended so well!

The churros were vegan friendly and delectably crisp.

Pros: Location, Location, Serving sizes
