Serves meat, vegan options available. Est. 1941 when the city was a booming oil town and is the oldest bar operating on the island. Kitchen will make any dish vegetarian on request - ask about vegan options though. Open Mon-Sat 11:00am-10:00pm. Kitchen stops 9pm.

Nice stylish bar - Edit
Went there on a recommendation of a local family member. The bar has a really cool and artsy interior. You feel like a lot of generations hat some great time spent there. We asked for vegan options, at first I had to explain to the young waiter what "vegan" means and he told me, they have no option. But it says on the menu, if you have a special request for vegetarian or allergies you should ask. Then he said - "ahh that's what you're referring too, yes we have something". In the End we got some really good lentil stew with rice and grilled plantain, some fried potatoes and a small salad or as they called it "food for the rabbits"

I mean, all things considered, it was fine. Oranjestad has tons of vegan options, but San Nicolas... not so much. There's another place nearby, and if vegan food is your priority, go there.
Read moreThat being said, Charlie's Bar is an institution. Growing up going to Aruba, stopping in was required when going to Baby Beach.
And my meal was ok. Decently filling. The server was a little taken aback when I asked about vegan food, but after some consultation with the kitchen, they had an option. And I remember the same the last time I went - years ago, a couple months after going vegan - but ended up cheating with the catch of the day.
For what it's worth, I remember their non-vegan food being excellent, so if in mixed company, they will almost certainly enjoy.
Again, Charlie's is on the shortlist of Aruba must-do, so would still recommend (as long as you're not starving).

Goed veganistisch gegeten hier! Een smaakvolle pasta met groenten en salade - Edit
Geef aan dat je vegan bent en dan word er zo iets voor je gemaakt. Naast dat het eten smaakvol is, zijn de mensen erg vriendelijk en spontaan. Vergeleken met Nederland krijg je een kleinere portie voor dit geld, hou daar rekening mee, dan kun je lekker eten:)
