This place has soul!

I read about Chef Cheryl Grigg in Newsday, and just had to visit when I got the chance. Chara’s is unassuming and out of the way, located in a small church basement. Pickup and delivery is made easy with DoorDash or Grubhub.

Chara’s menu is mostly non-vegan, but I was not disappointed by the Cocogrits, which are made with coconut and topped with hibachi vegetables. The Cocogrits are so filling, and will last for days. Even the fries were well seasoned and top-notch. I wish Chara’s had more vegan options, but I will still be coming back!

Pros: Authentic soul food, Gracious staff, Excellent Cocogrits

Cons: Could have more vegan options, Only open a few days a week
