Never again - cockroaches and disrespect

We’ve been too many times, but there aren’t a lot of nearby options. But never again.

After many mistakes (never admit and never fix them), we had the last straw when one of us had a literal roach in our food. When we told them, they offered to comp only that meal. Of course we left.

I’ve used loyalty points to place a to-go order, then arrive to find out they don’t have my order. When I show them on my phone, they either claim to not speak any English or say it’s too bad…then take my loyalty points and give me no food. Owners don’t work at the restaurant and don’t return calls or emails.

We retired from this place after the roach event.

DREADFUL!!!

This place is very disrespectful. Very, very disappointing. Got a dish called firecracker chicken. No actual chicken. It was little pieces of fried breading. Realized it half-way through. Asked the kitchen guy who supposedly was the manager. He not only refused to admit the problem but accused us of lying, even when we showed him the dish!!! So arrogant and dishonest. NEVER have seen this type of unprofessional behavior, not even at a a Popeyes or McDonalds! Unbelievable!!! We were not even asking for a refund!!! Will never be returning. First time will be the last. They list a potentially very loyal customer.

ALSO, FOR THOSE COMING HERE BECAUSE THIS IS HALAL, THE HALAL LABEL IS MOST LIKELY A LIE, BASED ON OUR HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE ABOVE AND THEIR CLEAR DISHONESTY. FOR THOSE NEEDING HALAL DISHES, BEST TO STAY AWAY!!!!

Also you can never get anyone to pick up the phone at this place!!!

All curries are vegan

All curries are vegan (if ordered with tofu). The menu is out-of-this-world crazy, but food is good and portions are large.

Good food; probably get take-out

I’ve never seen a restaurant with more touch screens to order, or more signs all around the entire restaurant. Weird vibe inside, but the food was good. Bit of a wait (7:30 pickup order wasn’t ready til 7:50) but we were pleased with the end product & would order from here again. Glad to see so many vegan options explicitly labeled on a menu (and even on the online order form!) in West Virginia.

NOTE ON SPICINESS: as every single reviewer on Google Maps correctly notes, this place dramatically UNDER-spices its dishes compared to the scale/labels it gives. My partner got a “5”, which was one level above “4: full commit”, and it was literally not spicy at all. I opted for the “10–20” spice range, which is listed as “ARE YOU SUICIDAL??” ... it’d likely qualify as a soft 2 out of 5 at any normal Thai place. If you truly want spicy, you’ve really gotta go to the 20–50 or even the 50–100 option.

Pros: Basically everything can be made v

Cons: Not spicy enough

Made my order wrong twice

Ordered veggie curry twice for take about and was given a meat option both times. Not going back.

Good eats!

Restaurant on the smallish side, but the food is delicious. They got it out to me very quickly, too. They have these convenient kiosks in the back you place your order on & the screens walk you through the steps to make sure what you're getting is vegan

Pros: Fair price, Good vegan options, Easy customization

Easy to customize

When you walk into the restaurant you have to go to the back and order on the touch screens- which took some getting used to! Fortunately ordering that way allows vegans to specify no fish sauce, tofu etc. in the dishes. The portions are huge (and I can eat a lot). I got the Pad Thai which provided three large servings of noodles. Fresh spring rolls were also very good.

Good

My partner and I have eaten here a good few times and probably will again. The food is pretty good and the prices are decent for the amount of food you receive. The fried spring rolls (was told they're vegan) are some of the best I've ever had! All of their tofu/veg curries are vegan too!

I usually get the tofu/veg massaman curry while my partner gets the tofu/veg panang galanga curry. The curry used to be a little bland but they have definitely improved!

As for the dining aesthetics, the place is nothing special. Looks like a basic 2007 design and hasn't changed since. The place usually seems clean and there's some nice outdoor seating.

Overall, a good little spot for hungry vegans. Chaang Thai, maybe put a little "VE" by your other vegan menu items other than the curry.

Tofu Options

I have had multiple dishes with the tofu protein option. There are pages of menu items and much of the menu can be changed to include tofu. I recommend the Cashew Nut with tofu.

Pros: Lots of options to add tofu.

Always Enjoy A Good Meal Here

Chaang Thai has been an establishment in Downtown Morgantown for several years now. Through a few changes in format in sit down versus counter service, this restaurant maintains a high level of quality and quantity of options for vegetarians, vegans, gluten-free folks. Upon arrival, they have menus which details specifically which items are already, or can be made, to your specific dietary restriction. Counter staff is knowledgeable about which ingredients; fish sauce, soy sauce, etc. are included in each meal to make certain you are not surprised by the meal you receive.

Portions are generous for the price, and meals which omit certain items are supplemented by additional noodles, tofu, vegetables and rice. I rarely leave hungry from this place, and always have several options to choose from.

The ordering system does take a bit of explaining the first time you visit. However, the management is more than willing to help walk you through the process. This system allows you to pick whichever table you'd prefer, and ensure quick service when wait times are minimal.

Pros: Many vegan and vegetarian options, Specific menus for each dietary preference, Portion sizes are good for each meals

Cons: Wait times can be excessive during peak hours, Limited menu during lunch time, Ordering system can be confusing on first approach

very accommodating with large portions

This is my favorite ethnic restaurant in Morgantown and hands down the BEST Pad Thai I have ever eaten. The menu tells you how to order if you want your food vegan. It also says the pad Thai tastes much different without fish sauce, but I don't notice much difference. One meal takes me three sittings to eat.

More than a little disappointed

I love Thai food and, absent any veggie restaurants in a particular place, a Thai restaurant is one of the first I will seek out.

When I entered on a weekday night, I was not especially surprised to find it sparsely populated. I just assumed that it was typical American indifference to foreign food (i.e. non-Mexican!)

However, there may have been a better reason. I am cautious of promises to make red or green curry without fish sauce, so I tend to go for other options. I chose a "spicy" noodle dish and asked for it to be spicy. Other than the fact that the meal was barely lukewarm, it was positively bland. They offered to take it away and spice it up but, by then, I'd had enough.

It might have been that they are used to Americans seeming inability to eat anything mildly spicy (other than Mexican, again)but I left the place deeply disappointed.

If I'm in Morgantown again, I might try it again, emphasising "original Thai" spiciness but I'm not altogether sure I could cope with another lukewarm meal.

Pros: Decent veggie selection, Downtown location

Cons: Insipid meal, Lukewarm food
