Serves meat, vegan options available. Ask for the separate vegan menu which lists a few starters and mains each and sorbet for dessert.

Nice to have vegan dinner and breakfast options at the hotel - Edit
I stayed here for one night and had dinner and breakfast. The staff were very friendly and the restaurant looked great.
Read moreFor dinner I had the skewered sticky soy glazed butternut squash and the vegan chocolate and orange sundae.
For breakfast I had the vegan breakfast: vegan sausage, black pudding, grilled tomato, mushrooms, hash browns, baked beans, spinach and toast.
Everything tasted great.
Pros: Vegan dinner and breakfast options, Friendly staff

Nice attempt - Edit
It was hard to find food on a Monday evening here. So we were glad we found this.
Read moreThe indoor setting is quite posh, but as it was good weather we went outside. The terrace is a bit less elegant with the Amstel beer parasols and the car park right next to it. However you have a nice view to the castle.
They really attempt some original vegan dishes.
The appetizers were quite tasty. We had the soup of the day, which was a delicious curry soup, and the chestnut falafel. Both were very tasty but we did get butter with the soup even though we clearly specified vegan.
As a main dish we had the mushroom risotto and the moussaka. Both were not that tasty.
As a dessert we got the crumble and sponge cake. The vegan custard was finished and replaced by chocolate ice cream after consulting with us. Both were tasty, especially the sponge cake was quite nice. Only the bottom still had some plastic film on it. So that was less appetising.
Staff is very friendly and thinks along.
Hopefully they manage to erase those small flaws and boost up the flavour level of the mains to that of the appetizers and desserts.

Vegan bangers and Mash - Edit
We didn’t know about the vegan menu so we ordered vegan bangers and mash from the main menu. Was nicely presented and tasty. Fun to have a version of a classic English dish.

Expensive and nothing special - Edit
We had the vegan burgers which were very expensive (£16 each) and average taste. They were served with fries and onion rings which were nice. The breaded mushrooms as a starter were the highlight of the evening. Wouldn’t go out of my way to visit there unless you have money to waste .

Great to see separate vegan menu but food was very disappointing. - Edit
We visited on a very busy Saturday evening and were seated in the bar area. We were given the menu and chose our options but then were told the menu has changed and has to re order. We were given free drinks for this. The service was really good and the waitress friendly and helpful too. Sadly the food did not match up to the descriptions on the menu and was extremely disappointing. Won’t allow me to upload photos.

Surprisingly tasty - Edit
I had lunch at the Castle Hotel. There were three vegan mains and three sides. I had the vegetable tempura bagel which was indeed tempura vegetables on a bagel with red onion marmalade and basil pesto. I wasn’t quite sure what to expect but it was surprisingly tasty and the staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel itself is also a nice setting.

Trying, but my food did not match up to the promise - Edit
We chose the Castle Hotel because of its specific vegan menu, which lists around five nibbles/starters, four main courses and three desserts (one of which was sorbet, another was fruit salad). I felt the price was high for the actual cost of the ingredients. I ordered charred cauliflower salad, the menu said it came with curried lentils and coconut raita. There were no lentils and no raita, just desiccated coconut and an oily dressing which needed something sharp like lime or lemon juice. I don’t usually put salt on my food but I needed to in this case because otherwise it was quite bland. £14 was a lot to pay for this. Obviously I cannot offer any verdict on the other dishes on the menu.
