Highway 142, Nuevo Arenal, Costa Rica, 5571

Serves meat, vegan options available. Restaurant's in-store menu shows marked vegan and vegetarian options of typical Costa Rican dishes, like burritos and tacos, alongside various salads and smaller sharing dishes like the spicy bean dip with plantain chips.

Great little find! - Edit

We were recommended this place by the health food shop across the road. Nuevo Arenal initially appeared to be an area bereft of vegan options (we couldn't find anything here on any of our usual apps).

We were delighted to discover that Casa Paniagua has a substantial range of options marked as "vegan" on the menu. A bunch of the starters are vegan, they do a wide array of very tasty-looking vegan salads, and as a main course they have Mexican Street Tacos available as a vegan option without modifications.

We had the spicy bean dip with plantain chips to start, and went for the tacos and the Costa Rican Burrito which can be made vegan by passing on the mayo. Both were excellent. The burrito was packed with veggies and really delicious – accompanied by excellent yucca fries. The tacos were delish.

They also serve a great range of the local Kambucha Co. I went for the aloe, spirulina and mint which was a very refreshing accompaniment. My partner had the mango and coconut smoothie – which she says was lovely.

Pros: Great food, friendly staff, good view

Cons: More vegan options, it was a bit windy when we were there
