Love This Restaurant - Edit
This restaurant has more than doubled in size since I came here about a year ago and added it to HappyCow. The restaurant has such a warm feeling inside, with artisinal local products on the walls and beautiful art throughout.
Read moreI just tell them I am vegan, and they bring me delicious food.
This time, the super sweet owners brought me a corn tamale, a fantastic gordita (a Mexican thin bread sandwich filled with veggies), and an awesome thin crust vegan pizza with veggies.
Although your vegan choices may be limited, vegan food is not always so easy to find in TJ, so this restaurant has been a great addition to Tijuana's veg-friendly scene.
They also have wifi.
Pros: delicious artisinal vegan food, beautiful presentation, Clean

Bad experience at this Restaurant - Edit
My sadly bad experience at this Restaurant: while drinking one of their prehispanic beverages, I felt something in my mouth. I chewed thinking was a cinnamon stick, but feeling a strange texture I took it out and yes: was a horrible cockroach or half of it, because I had already eaten the other half. That was not the worst part: when I called the waitress, she kindly took the napkin with the bug and left. Then the cook came to our table arguing that was not a cockroach but a cricket. Unfortunately I know for sure what is the difference between both of them so me and my friend knew that was not truth. From that point we were treated like thieves and were acused of creating all that just to avoid paying the bill. When I asked them to compare the bug on the napkin with a cricket, they said the napkin was in the trash can and they couldn find it. Very convenient. We paid and we left really upset from such an embarrasing moment. This could happen in some places in México, specially if they are located in old buildings. But the reaction from the Restaurant was a real shame and totally offensive.

Healthy and traditional fare - Edit
Very friendly staff. It’s nice to find vegan versions of regional dishes (Chiapas, Oaxaca, Zacatecas etc.), and even the omni dishes are not easy to find.
Read moreThe mole negro is not too spicy. I recommend the hearty gorditas (stuffed with beans and corn). Café de la olla is always a safe bet.
Pros: Very accommodating for vegans, Hard-to-find regional dishes, It’s also a store with unique regional products
Cons: Cash only

AMAZING VEGETARIAN OPTIONS - Edit
Casa Cacao is the place to go when you want really flavorful food and delicious vegetarian options. The owners are very educated about their vegetarian options. I had the most amazing tamales, with a mole sauce on them and they were amazing. You can also order hot chocolate made with water instead of milk. Besides tamales, you the guacamole there is made fresh daily and they make the best taquitos with guacamole and courgette and other veggies filled with flavor. They can make you their most famous dish of emoladas which are like enchiladas but with a sauce made with cacao instead of a red tomatoe sauce.

Great atmosphere and great food - Edit
This place was awesome! It is really homey inside, you would never believe that it is right by the border crossing. The menu items denote which are "veg" and they understood when we told them we were veganos. They had this awesome spicy seed sauce that was highly unusual.

chocolate and coffee heaven - Edit
Not much to eat, but the owners are very accommodating, and always prepare a vegan crisp/pizza for us, on a blue tortilla. Their coffee beans however are fantastic. We always buy several pounds to last us a few months. Their chocolates are of excellent quality. I still don't know if their mole pastes contain any animal fat?I shall ask next time, as I improve my Spanish?

Cons: wish to have more vegan food choices
