Amazing selection

Wide range of vegan options. I tried the banana blossom fish and while I found it unnerving it did taste good and I'm definitely keen to go back and try other meals

Lots of options

Full vegan menu available including things not on the main menu and dessert! I have had the red curry and the jackfruit wraps, and sticky date pudding twice. House made vegan gelato yum yum.

Pros: Lots of vegan options, Friendly staff , Parking

Cons: Far away from Dunedin central

Great vegan options

Some nice vegan choices. The menu states fried food is not prepared in a separate vegan fryer. The wine and beer list clearly states the vegan options.

Pros: Great location, Relaxed vibe, Friendly staff

Vegan food on Harbor

Carey’s Bay offers a variety of vegan food, good low alcohol beer and sours, and a water view as it is across the road from Otago Harbor. Soup is always good as is the jackfruit roti. I want to try the banana blossom fish, even my partner said it was ‘just ok’. Fries would be better is they were hand cut and from fresh potatoes. I love fries hand cut on site😋 they do have good craft beer and sours on site. Since I normally only drink one beer in a sitting, I would like to see at least one higher alcohol option, such as a double hazy ipa on tap, my favorite. I am not a big fan of session IPA’s, TBH.

Pros: A nice variety of vegan options, many are healthy, Get the optional brown bread with the soup 🍜

Cons: Beer is a tad bit expensive for low alcohol beer.

Nice

Must book if you’re in town for a concert. Plenty of vegan options! Worth the drive.
It’s got a England pub dining feel about it which is just great.

Pros: Good service , Nice food , Good price

Cons: Busy , Hardly any tap cider

Great vegan options, lovely setting

I visited Carey’s Bay Hotel twice and tried the banana blossom fish and chips (amazing), then the soup of the day (parsnip, carrot and courgette) and tempura veges (also delicious). I wasn’t sure if the spread for the soup bread was actually vegan so left it - next time will check. I loved that they listed vegan drinks in the menu. Lovely setting too - it can be busy though (especially if a cruise ship is in the port or a concert on in the city) so I’d recommend booking a table in advance.

Pros: Separate vegan menu, Good food, Menu lists vegan drinks

Cons: Bookings essential to ensure you get a table

Wonderful food and atmosphere

We enjoyed every aspect of our experience here. Sitting in the conservatory was a real treat on a cool day. The staff are vegan savvy and understand their vegan menu. Hubby had the jackfruit BBQ roti; I had the banana flower 'fish' and chips. Both were amazing! Vegan wines and desserts available.

Pros: selection, staff knowledgable, great space

Food by the sea

My bf and I drove out here on a sunny day on our recent trip to Dunedin because we read that they had vegan food options. We were only after a snack so opted for the vegan nachos. I haven't had decent nachos since going vegan (unless made by myself) as most places don't offer vegan cheese or sour cream. Careys did not disappoint! Lovely nachos with beans jalapenos and vegan cheese AND sour cream! Totally hit the spot and that craving for proper nachos. They have a full seperate vegan menu and everything sounded yummy. Even two desserts. Also their drinks menu clearly labels vegan beers and wines. Gorgeous old building in beautiful setting inside and out right by the sea. Would recommend and will definitely be back again. (Four star only as it won't allow me to select five for some reason.)

Pros: Lots of vegan options clearly labeled, Lovely place, view, and atmosphere
