We Should Have Just Gone to Jack-In-The-Box - Edit
I went to the Canton Bistro recently with 3 friends I haven't seen in a while. We decided to meet at 3:30 to be able to miss the lunch & dinner crowds and be able to talk.
Let me repeat that:
* We arrived at 3:30pm.
We looked over the menus, made a few decisions, and got to talking. We hadn't seen each other in quite a while, so time got away from us while we were chatting and waiting for Norma to return and take our orders. Then we realized it had been a while, wondering when Norma would be back to take our orders. This is when we realized it was 5:15pm.
For those of you only reading the bullet points and not the text, let me recap events:
* 3:30pm We Arrived
* 5:15pm Our server had NOT taken our orders yet
I finally left the table to hunt the hostess down. The hostess had no idea who was working that table, but assured me she would ask around and find out who it was and send them over. Hmmm . . .
So yes, our orders got taken, including appetizers. Only HALF the appetizers arrived. Meanwhile, the ice literally melted in glasses while we waited for our food, which arrived an hour later. Yep, that's right, it's now 6:20pm. Norma asked if the missing appetizers arrived, and when we told her no, she said "well, do you want them now?" She then proceeded to pour refills of fresh iced tea into the glasses with the completely melted ice cubes.
Bullet Point Recap:
* 3:30pm We Arrived
* 5:15pm Hostess finds Norma to take our orders
* 6:20pm Food arrives
We finish our meal by 7pm and I'm sure you're shocked to hear, we haven't seen Norma. I once again hunted down the hostess to get our check from Norma. The hostess has no idea where Norma is. Norma arrives ten minutes later with the check.
Norma says she appreciates our patience because, "it's always so busy during dinner." Really, you don't say, if only we had planned . . .
Bullet Point Recap:
* 3:30pm We Arrived
* 5:15pm Hostess finds Norma to take our orders
* 6:20pm Food arrives
* 7:00pm Dinner finished and we all just want OUT
Since Canton Bistro charges an extra 3% for using your card, we had all pre-decided to make sure we hit the ATM to bring cash to pay the bill (because really, who uses cash that often anymore?). Oh, and PS, it notes on the menu that prices can be changed without notice; isn't that fun.
Norma picks up the tray with cash & bill, walks a few steps away, twirls around and with a flourish and in a loud voice calls out:
Greasiest Americanized “Cantonese” cuisine in the valley. The staff not understanding the concept of plant-based foods and ingredients doesn’t inspire a lot of confidence. I won’t be back.
The chicken is not vegan and when I called to ask, the lady said it was. I came and saw that there is whey in the chickn so I had to order the tofu and bok choy but it didn’t taste authentic whatsoever
