Deep fried everything!

I really wanted to like it here but the food was just not for me. We ordered the loaded combo for two and it was just trays of deep fried everything including seitan, cauliflower, arancini and even deep fried olives! We ended up picking off most of the batter as it was just too much. The smacked cucumbers were nice and zingy and the hummus was ok but not amazing. I think it would have been much better if the olives and seitan were not deep fried to give a bit of variety to the platter. We probably should have read the menu more carefully to be fair, but I can't imagine many people wanting to eat that much deep fried food in one sitting!

As for the drinks, there's a good selection of vegan beer but the one I wanted had run out. They do cocktails but we didn't try them.

We were the only people in there on a Saturday lunchtime (peak time) so there was no ambience and it felt kinda awkward walking in. The space is absolutely freezing too. I was sat in there wearing a hoodie and winter coat in April, so not very inviting. I'm sure it's a cool music venue but not somewhere I'd visit for food again unfortunately.

Staff were really lovely and friendly though.

All vegan beer, burgers and bar snacks.

We spent a little while looking for Cantina including looking around the back of the building for an entrance, however that seems to be an upstairs sometimes only offer [shrug]. The Old Red Bus Station is a city centre bar on Vicar Lane in what was until 1990 a bus station complete with a newsagent. It is now a grungy industrial bar which is open late into the night/morning. There are bench tables near the entrance door and we opted for the darker atmosphere in the back.

I won burgers for two in a Christmas competition and only paid for our drinks. I needn't have booked as the bar was quiet even on the Thursday afternoon before Christmas.

The menu can be downloaded and I hope to add a 2023 screenshot. The Christmas special burger was off so we had two Spicy Chick N Stacks, with fries. Also Vocation IPA and a bus station pilsner. The food arrived promptly with a smile. The french fries were perfect and we really enjoyed the burgers. Be advised that they really mean it when they call them spicy. One diner ditched the pickles which the other ate. I see from the menu that the second burger is only £1 on Thursday which means great value for 2.

We enjoyed our visit and I will certainly return for a quick bite and beer whilst out in Leeds. Especially on Thursdays. Probably not somewhere I will go for a romantic destination meal.

Pros: Good value menu options, Really Tasty burgers and fries, All vegan

Cons: Signage and branding was confusing, A bit too dark to see your meal, Toilets are shabby

Passable junk food

Had a couple of burgers there, pretty basic and could be served warmer to be honest. Deep fried basic Junk food .

Pros: All vegan , Central in the city, Not busy, plenty of seating

Cons: Food could be warmer , Could do with more alternatives to burgers

Loved it!

Been wanting to go here for a while so was excited to finally give it a try!
A good location and a cool venue, however, the signage was a little confusing as we followed the signs to go upstairs to find out its downstairs only.
We got the sriracha cauliflower burger and the hash down burger along with poutine fries.
We didn’t realise that you got fries with the burgers so we got the poutine to share so we were overloaded with chips lmao.
Both burgers were amazing, the cauliflower Pattie worked really well and the seitan patty in the hash down was sooo good.
The hash down in general was amazing, the cheeze and the onion sauce and the hash brown - worked so well together.
The chips were great, crispy and felt like a gourmet version of McDonald’s chips lmao.
The poutine wasn’t as good as I was expecting but when you got to the gravy parts at the bottom it was delicious.
Can’t wait to go again!

Pros: Cheap food, Good portions , Delicious

Cons: Confusing signage

Good food for a fair price

Great that it’s an all vegan menu, the food is good quality but the portions are relatively small. It’s fair for the price but if you want the wow factor for a higher price, would recommend Doner Summer which isn’t far away.

Pros: Good food at a fair price

Good food, centrally located

I’ve visited Cantina quite a few times - I’ve had their Sunday roast and more recently the burgers and more snacky foods. They’ve recently had their buy a burger, get another for £1 offer which is a great deal! They don’t accept cash, though.

The staff are always friendly and attentive and the food is good. However, there’s always something that makes me dislike it here - the place is usually too cold, too noisy and the toilets really need revamping!

Seitan nuggs

Used to love it here, the menu has changed over a LOT in the past few years and is now much smaller than it used to be. There are a few items that I miss (including the wider range of burgers they used to serve back in 2018/2019) but for the most part, what they have left on the menu is solid, good quality fast food at a decent price. I recommend the seitan nuggets and macaroni cheese!

This places deserves to be busy.

Everytime I go here, I have no idea why its quiet. Please continue to support this place! Food is awesome, great prices (often some good deals to be hand), quick service, friendly staff and nice bar. Burgers are always a good choice 😊

Coffee was great, cake was not

Visited the downstairs floor of cantina (The Old Red Bus Station) for a coffee. There was a deal on the board which the member of staff (who was very nice) told us was no longer on offer so that was a bit of a frustrating start.

We ordered a few coffees and some carrot cakes. The coffees were lovely but the cake was inedible. Stodgy but dry at the same time.

The decor could also do with a tidy up. I’m sure it’s fine at night but in the day time it looks quite tatty.

Pros: Coffees were great , Friendly staff

Cons: Cake wasn’t good , Tatty surroundings , Doesn’t seem to know what it is

We tried to go on a Saturday lunchtime and unfortunately it was closed and no signs of opening which was a pity because given the good reviews we would love to try it.

Absolutely beautiful

Visited to try their new autumn menu and it was absolutely beautiful, I have absolutely nothing negative to say. The poutine, aranchi balls and tofu popcorn were my highlight. Also, try the pilsner!

Cheap and tasty vegan food!

We went right before the eat out to help out scheme started, and on a Wednesday. The menu was reduced due to staffing/COVID-19, or at least it didn't match what was posted on their FB page but it didn't matter too much as there was still loads of choice and it all looked pretty interesting!
It was buy one burger, get the second for £1 so an amazing deal 😁
We shared our food so ordered 2 burgers and a side, the portions are massive we could barely finish it! It tasted incredible. We were gutted we'd left it too late to order dessert as they looked amazing too.
Really friendly service, the guy at the bar couldn't do enough for us.
Visit this place!

Pros: Cheap and good portions, Tasty , Great staff

Cons: Opening/serving hours can be a bit confusing

Gorgeous junk food

Eaten here a lot since moving to Leeds and it never fails to impress.

Highly recommend the Mac got Fat burger and the kebab. The service is really fast and waiters are always lovely. Also great that you can look into the kitchen and see everything being cooked!

Only qualm I have is that I’ve heard from sources that staff are treated very poorly by management so I’d check where tips go!

Pros: all vegan options, funny references, lovely staff

Cons: slightly expensive , rude management

Disappointing

Very rude staff, in particular a guy with red hair and glasses, who was very unhelpful and didn’t care to help us with ordering etc. Half the beers were off, meaning we couldn’t use the beer deals. The chips were raw, my friend’s burger came without half of the fillings it was meant to have (so he had to send it back to ask them to make it properly), my “hellfire” burger was bland and tough - barely any spice. The “tuna” sandwich was bland and soggy.

Cons: Expensive

Good vegan pub food

One of the few all-vegan eateries in Leeds City Centre. Went in recently with three friends and we ordered a bunch of things to share, not one of which was disappointing! Our personal favourites were the Ve-bab, TLT, seitan burgers, and mac & cheese balls. Reasonable prices and good portion sizes, as all main dishes come with a side of chips. They also do several daily deals, making the prices even more reasonable. Highly recommended!

Pros: Good food options, Reasonable prices

Cons: Can be difficult to get a table at busy times

Bland, expensive and uninspiring food

Me and my girlfriend went there just before Christmas and tried it out. The food was quite expensive for what it was (fast food etc) and was very disappointing. I had Santa's bulging sack which was supposed to be a Christmas dinner in a bun. It promised so much but delivered very little. It was basically some fried sprouts and flavourless mock meat strips. Im not being snobby or anything, I usually love this kind of thing it was just honestly really bad.
Its great to have vegan food available and have options to eat out. But the competition is high with other places offering much tastier options. I just hope my experience was a one off.

Pros: Gluten free options

Cons: Expensive, Bland tastless food, Uninviting rough interior
