Best vegan food on Nuku Hiva

Had some truly incredible fresh, local, vegan food with Ana and Tangy of Cannibal Art. As in, mind-blowingly excellent things like fried breadfruit, green papaya salads, lentil stews, and “coco cakes.” I was so enraptured I forgot to take more photos. IMO this is by far the best vegan food on the island, and is WAY better than Chez Yvonne, especially for vegans. Vegan dining on Nuku Hiva is VERY limited, particularly if your French needs work. Ana speaks excellent English and is herself vegan.

Note they’re in the business of hosting folks for hiking excursions. However, if you ask for vegan food and say HappyCow sent you, they’ll almost certainly be willing to prepare a meal for you without a hike. Having said that, the hikes offered are fantastic (I went on two) and if this is your first time to Hakaui I definitely recommend going on at least one of their guided hikes. Contact Cannibal Art by email to make your reservation. And do it well in advance of your arrival — there’s no internet or phone service in Hakaui so it can sometimes be a few days before they’re able to see and respond to your message.

Pros: Amazingly delicious vegan meals, Many ingredients grown and harvested FRESH by them, Very friendly people
