Really nice place to eat

Friendly staff, both the dishes I had were delicious with the exception of seitan, but I’m not a fan of fake meat. Everything else was terrific.

Best breakfast sandwich I have ever had, but it’s only available at brunch (sat/sun until 4:30). So good!!! 😊

Spectacular!

I loved Candle Cafe and Candle 79 back in the day, and this Candle follows the tradition of veggie-forward, perfectly seasoned vegan food. The artichoke appetizer, Moroccan spiced chickpea cakes, cauliflower pizza, and pumpkin pie (on special) were all delectable, as was the Pinot Grigio I tried!

Pros: Lovely food, Lovely service

Good food

Tough deciding here. Had a couple tacos, 1 mushroom & 1 jackfruit. My fav was mushroom.
Had the paella, very flavorful and filling. Wife had the Cesar Kale salad. A unique part of that was the croutons.

Amazing flavors and welcoming service

Lovely welcoming atmosphere filled with joy and love in the food. The mushroom crepes were amazing and if you love mushrooms a must try. The chocolate peanut butter dessert made me stop time in my mouth.

Went back and it was such a welcoming amazing atmosphere as the first time. The food was amazing and service so friendly it makes you want to stay

Amazing Farm-to-Table, Organic, Vegan!

The reviews and back story for this farm-to-table, organic, vegan restaurant were compelling, so we had to see for ourselves.

Chef/Owner Jorge Pineda was warm and open to share about his food and story. He and his partner (Angel Ramos) have been cooking good & healthy plant-based food for over 25 years — WAY before it was popular.

One of the things I loved is that they are not trying to make plant-based as an animal substitute — this is good, wholesome vegan fare, and REALLY delicious!!

You can see what we ordered in my photos — all excellent. But the Parmesan Crispy Artichokes were outstanding — food that hugs you! The layers of flavors in this dish made me speechless. If we weren’t in public, you *know* we’d be licking the plate!!

My GF loved her Wild Mushroom Crepe. “The medley of flavors, among the nutty tempeh, wild mushrooms & chickpeas blended wonderfully.” (Chickpea crepe)

We will try the dumplings steamed next time — even though the fried was nice & crispy, we think the softer may be better.

The (medium) heat on the Breadcrumb Cauliflower was nicely balanced with the amazing almond-lemon ‘cheese’ & crunch of the coating. The micro greens topping was a perfect ‘bow-on-top’ 😉

Though quite sated, we got oat milk lattes & the Live Blueberry Pie. The coffee was excellent (with cocoa notes?!). I have to remember that I’m not a fan of raw dessert (unless it’s fruit) or almond flour — it’s a texture thing. But it was beautifully constructed, and the flavors were good. Date Ice Cream is interesting. Felt like maple would been a better sweetener … for me. 🤷🏻‍♂️

We will definitely be back — much more to taste!

Only negative was the hefty tab, but not really if you consider this is NYC and it’s fresh, ORGANIC, beautiful food. Happy to pay it.

Pros: Everything , Staff was outstanding , Organic, fresh, healthy

Cons: Price (but really, it’s fair)

Fantastic

All of the excellent reviews are no joke! Non-vegans took my husband and I here (visiting from out of town) as a celebratory dinner and everything was so, so good. I would go back for the asparagus alone!

Pros: All vegan

Everything was amazing

With so many places to go in NYC, this was a true gem. Everything with the food was amazing. It is a little on the expensive side, and brunch is a real treat! This has become one of our must go-to’s anytime in the City.

Pros: Food, Presentation, Relatively unknown

Cons: A little pricey

Piccata

This is only the second time I've had a piccata (this one was seitan) since going vegan a decade ago. The food came out a bit quicker than I would have expected, but it was fantastic and came with delicious mashed potatoes. I was bummed that I forgot about dessert because the dessert menu looked amazing. They also had a great variety of non-alcoholic drinks.

Pros: Great food, Mocktail menu, Dessert options

Simply fabulous…

…and a pleasant reminder (not that it was needed) of our one visit to the incredible Candle 79, years ago.
On this recent visit at Brunch hour, we enjoyed roasted lemon Brussels sprouts and some items from Candle’s Mothers Day special menu: Truffle Risotto with King [I think!] Oyster mushroom “scallops,” asparagus and peas; Brunch Bowl with tofu eggs and tempeh bacon; Chocolate Peanut Butter Bliss(!); Rhubarb in phyllo dough…

Pros: Intimate setting, out-of-the-way in a good way., Delicious starter, entrees, special desserts.

GET THE BOLOGNESE!

Honestly the food is AMAZING! AMAZING !!!!! BUT ...... The environment is not the best. It's tight, too serious, the food isn't the fastest and it is pricey. but I will say the food is worth it. I would just love the ambiance to change. Then it would be perfect. Absolutely perfect!

Pros: DELICIOUS FOOD, DESERTS, FRESHLY SQUEEZED JUICES

Cons: prices, ambiance

Great Food & Service, Meh Atmosphere

We missed Candle so much after it closed, and finally made it to the "new" incarnation. The food was just as good, healthy and packed full of flavor. So many options, it was hard to choose. The only thing not as great as the old place was the atmosphere. It could use some "warming up." Also, no wine list, but you can go across the street and buy a bottle to have with dinner.

Pros: Great menu, Food was creative and healthy, Great service

Cons: Atmosphere not warm enough

Wonderful Vegan Food NYC!

Nice atmosphere, food was some of the best we have had in NYC! I had the spaghetti bolognese and it was AMAZING. Wife had the seitan Marsala and the flavors were perfect. Consistency of their seitan is great, nice clean flavor profiles. We finished off with carrot cake that was light, moist and very delicious but not overly sweet. Currently it is BYOB, and we didn’t know that so we skipped wine at dinner. We are going back to give brunch a try.

We came back for Brunch! So good! Pictures added. One of our new favorites in NYC.

Welcome back, Candle

A tasty and filling prix fixe menu for Thanksgiving. I had the beet salad, mushroom ravioli, seitan and sweet potato pie. The seitan was a little too chewy and the pie crust a tad cold and not flaky. I still yearn for the old Candle, but I’ll be back.

Pros: All vegan , Freshly ingredients , Friendly staff

Cons: Not equal to the old Candle Cafe , No liquor license, can BYOB

First Time at "New" Candle

After seeing a magnificent flamenco presentation at Repertorio Español, I couldn't pass up the chance to try out the "new" Candle just around the corner. I'm very happy to see that Candle has returned. While they don't have a lot on their menu that's oil-free, my server, Martin, was very accommodating and had the kitchen alter their Wild Mushroom Salad (steamed mushrooms and fresh lemon instead of dressing.) I also opted to get a baked potato on the side, as well as peppermint tea for "dessert."
Eating out has certainly proven to be more challenging since I've adopted a whole food, oil-free, and sugar-free vegan diet, after being a "foodie" Vegan since 2007. Nevertheless, I think that the more upscale Vegan establishments have kitchens that are certainly more health conscious and willing to accommodate more discriminating Vegans. Candle is certainly one of them.

Pros: Excellent Service, Healthier options available on request, Beautiful atmosphere

Excellent seitan

We tried the lobster ravioli and seitan skewers as appetizers and the grilled kale salad and seitan piccata as entrees. It was a lot of food! I’m not much a ravioli fan but my partner really liked it. We both enjoyed the chimichurri skewers. This was probably our favorite dish. The seitan was tender and juicy and the roasted tomatoes and chimichurri sauce were a great combination. The grilled kale salad was fantastic! Loved the lemony dressing and it had a balance of crunchiness from the sunflower seeds and a slight kick from the red onion. The seitan piccata was our least favorite. The seitan itself was well done but the lemon caper sauce was not as flavorful as we expected. Overall it was good experience, but since we’re only in town for short visits at a time, I’m not sure if we will return with so many other tasty options in the area that are more worth the price.

Pros: Excellent seitan skewers

Cons: Expensive for what they offer

A vegan legend reincarnated

Yahoo! Over the moon that Candle Cafe has been reincarnated! The food and selection are as delicious and creative as ever. The service is friendly, warm and attentive. Their liquor license is coming, until then you are welcome to bring your own wine or beer. They know how to make fabulous vegan food that is truly tasty and healthy simultaneously.

They have numerous appetizers and main dishes and a great selection of sides to create your own market plate with terrific innovative dressings. Candle has the best tofu and tempeh in the City.

And the prices for superb organic, vegan food are good.

Be prepared to be happy, satisfied and enchanted.
