Cali-Mex Taqueria

i ordered a mixed bean + mixed veg bowl, without knowing that there would be cream added. i found out later through a facebook exchange with cali-mex that regular sour cream had been used (my fault for not checking with the service staff when placing my order):

"Hi XXX, our bowls come standard with regular sour cream. Only our Venice beach vegan comes with tofu sour cream unless specifically ordered. We are sorry if that was not clear. Thanks Cali-Mex

thanks, i know next time. would it be possible to request for beans/veg with tofu sour cream?

Hi XXX, sure if you please let our phone operator know or order on line you can add tofu sour cream as an added option and in comments put a note that you are vegan no normal sour cream. Thanks Cali-Mex"

I had a really great burrito here. It came with vegan cheese and vegan soy chicken pieces. It was so tasty. My frozen margarita tasted great too. My omni boyfriend really enjoyed their tacos too.

To update this. At least Cali-mex are serious about the vegan offering they have. I tried their competitor for the HK take away Mexican food market this evening. The people in the other place clearly have no idea what vegan means. At least in Calimex if you ask for the Venice Beach burrito the staff follow a vegan recipe.

I don't doubt for a moment that someone has added this listing in good faith & intent. For me personally I need a place to offer more than a solitary vegan option amongst the other dishes dedicated to meat eating. There's plenty other places nearby that are all vego. There's an omnivorous soup & salad place nearby that is much more geared to the veg*an market place.

Just my opinion of course. As always I leave you to decide for yourself.

Very friendly staff that speaks english. You can have a vegan option that is clearly marked on the menu, that includes soy meat, sour surpreme and vegan cheese. You can get it as a burrito, sallad bowl, quesadillas etc.

Very good place if you are looking for vegan mexican!
