Real Dissapointment

Cafe Yaffo is one of the most well known restaurants in Jaffa, so our recent poor dining experience there was quite the disappointment.

Five minutes after sitting down at a booth, when we were almost finished ordering from the waitress, the manager apologized and requested for us to move to the other side of the restaurant (which does not have booths) because the seats were taken. With good customer service, some form of compensation would have been given for the inconvenience, but no such compensation was offered.

My mom ordered the Brioche breakfast. The Brioche was NOT brioche. It was more similar to a bread for french toast. She was given salad dressing with her salad which was so old, that the dressing was like a rock and would not come out of the container. It was actually hard!

I ordered the Shakshuka. What a mistake. The tomatoes tasted like they came out of a can. It was served in a pasta bowl (authentic Shakshuka is supposed to be cooked and served in the skillet) and tasted like they just threw some eggs over a ready made tomato sauce with peppers in it. The flavor was beyond bland and pedestrian. Considering that this establishment is just 2 blocks away from Dr. Shakshuka (who makes some of the best shakshuka in Israel, including a vege one), i could not believe that I paid 52 NIS for this unauthentic completely inferior product.

In addition, the bread was small and extremely doughy and I'm almost 100% positive they use bottled synthetic lemon juice. The prices are decent but not great and for 50 NIS p/p for breakfast they can (like almost every other cafe in Israel) give diners a juice AND a coffee, rather cheaply than making them choose.

The final indignity was they gave me an already filled out customer comment card. I'm glad to see that this restaurant thinks highly of itself, but in a neighborhood bustling with deliccious eateries, if Cafe Yaffo cares about its customers opinions and dining experiences, they really have to up their game.

Pros: Good Location (adjacent to Flea Market)

Cons: Flavorless, poorly cooked food, Unfresh ingredients, Bad customer service

Delicious food

Service was a bit slow but the food was worth the wait - the tofu hriime was delicious and the vegan pecan pie even better

Nice vegan options in fun place

I attended their "Sorcerers Night" in English and the show and dinner were very enjoyable. I liked that there were a number of vegan options clearly marked.

I had the vegan stuffed vine leaves and vegetable couscous. The vine leaves were quite good, probably from a can though. The couscous portion was enormous but could have used some more vegetables and flavor.

I recommend the Sorcerers Night - it's very entertaining and takes place on Sundays. You have to reserve your place in advance.

I'm giving them 4 stars for the overall experience. The food itself is maybe 3 stars.

Vegan friendly

Love CAFE YAFO, this is a family run restaurant in the middle of the flea market of Jaffa. The food and service is excellent. I love that they have a lot of dishes for Vegans. Especially loved the "meat balls" on rice. The Friday breakfast buffet is great!

Pros: Location, Freindly Stuff
