The vegetarian restaurant of choice for students at Waseda

As a current student at Waseda, I end up going here really often. I'm just a poor student though, so I can't come here as often as I like (lunch prices still hover around 1000 yen), but it's not too bad. For lunch, you usually have a choice from three options, while they have a larger menu for dinner, although some of the dinner options (such as the veggie hamburger) are pretty lackluster. They also have two dogs, which some people find cute, and you can also bring your own dog to the cafe. Personally though, the dogs are always trying to find ways to get a bite of your food if they can, which I find somewhat annoying.

Cute cafe

Nice cafe in a convenient location in downtown Naha, however as it's on a busy road, they have no outside seating and inside the AC is unbearably cold, even in the winter. They have a rather wide menu with almost everything 'veganizable'. The cake is too expensive though (650 yens for a slice of vegan cake). So is the almond milk (extra 100 yens). The dog is very cute (they also have their own special mugs, with the dog's head instead of a handle). Nice latte art.

Pros: Vegan options, Wide drink menu

Cons: Expensive almond milk, Cold AC

Different vegan options

The menu had vegan options and their dog is so cute. The cafe is also dog friendly so you can bring your dog too. Definitely will come back!

Cool cafe for lunch!

I got take out from here, but the ambiance is quite nice; would enjoy eating in at some point. The Thai soy meat dish was surprisingly spicy for japan, but pleasantly so. I liked all the eco friendly messages and policies they had!

Good food and cute dog

The food was very tasty, I ate a VG chicken and fries. The portions were pretty decent. Not the cheapest place but not too bad. The dog was very cute and well behaved!

Laid back cafe with nice vegan options

Read more in this vegan Okinawa guide: https://itravelforveganfood.com/vegan-okinawa-guide/

Cafe VG is a vegetarian cafe near Miebashi station. It has two cute resident dogs that may bark and inspect when customers come in.

They serve some classic veg options like taco rice, curry rice, and more. Dinner time has a bigger menu with pasta and savory pancake. The options that can be made vegan are marked clearly. So be sure to ask for vegan when you order.

The taco rice at lunch time is a healthy take on the dish without losing the tastiness. It has an abundance of salad leaves, topped with flavorful soy mince. It’s well seasoned with herbs and spices.

Pros: Many options can be made vegan, Relaxing atmosphere

So cozy

Really cozy cafe with a cute dog! Good service, good food and reasonably priced.
Also love how this cafe is aiming to reduce plastic and waste - you'll get a small discount if you bring your own tumbler and/or takeaway box.
Nice atmosphere at night and really good music in the background.

Nice option for lunch around Waseda

I used to go here when I was a grad student at Waseda, especially since even during lunch, it wasn't that crowded. (I assume due to the price of around 1000 yen for lunch and most people in Japan wanting meat.)
Could do without the dogs, but the food is pretty good.

Relaxing and homely

Wonderful place with two Minature Schnauzers named Latte and Mocha who are polite little guard dogs that aren’t afraid to have a good bark at most of the customers coming in.

Food was great, awesome karage and almond pork cutlet as well as a very value rice dish. I recommend also trying a matcha soy ice latte - a cool, tasty drink for a hot evening.

The front of house was super lovely and helpful with the explanations and helping us split the bill.

Dachshund about : what more you need.

Cute cozy cafe up near Waseda station which has two resident dogs who get excited when visitors come about. One of the doggos is a black fluffy Dashie who will waddle about for pats and if lucky cuddles. There is another small doggo as well that loves sleeping on the couch. Food was nice but will need to ask for the vegan option which is labeled. My partner and I got a mushroom pasta with salad and soup. Offers soy lattes.

Pros: Doggos, English friendly

Cons: Dogs will bark for every new person

Cute cafe with cute dogs

It’s a nice little cafe - There was a few options on the menu that you just ask for it to be vegan like the plate of the day or the curry. We got the vegan plate of the day which was herb and mushroom pasta, salad and a soup. The food was good and to top it off the owners dogs are in there waddling around ready for pats :-)

Pros: Cute doggos, English menu

Good food, but not incredible

In contrast with previous reviews, when we went to Cafe VG there was nobody working there who spoke English. Not an issue for us as we managed with our limited Japanese, and I'm sure anyone who doesn't speak Japanese can get by by simply pointing to the menu (which is in English), but it's worth mentioning.
Anyway, the food here was pretty good. I got the pepperoncino with almonds, which was unusual but tasty, and my boyfriend got the special taco rice, which was cheese taco rice. He liked it, but the cheese was really artificial tasting, which I guess is not surprising in a country that uses very little cheese. The pasta came with a side salad which was actually pretty big and quite tasty. Portions in general were very large. This place was good, but we probably wouldn't make an effort to come back.

Pros: big portions, English menu, pretty tasty vegetarian food

very poor cuisine

Always the same 3 vegan options, cooked without skills nor soul ... A vegan plate with a great amount of green salad, and the most bizarre looking and tasting "quiche", liquidy curry ... The staff seems unconcerned about veganism or animal rights whatsoever !

Must LOVE dogs!

The two doggies run free in the place, fine with me but maybe not for everyone. Menu in English and clearly labeled with vegan options (65% of the menu is vegan). I had the house red wine their small salad (which was huge) and their original pasta dish. Noodles with oil/almonds/other amazingness. Salad was basic veggies but a great size with really great ginger dressing. Super close to the Waseda station on Tozai line, 4 minute walk. Love everything about this place. Adorable, delicious and dinner dates included (puppies). Don't miss if you are in the area.

Pros: vegan options!

Cons: expensive side, but it's Japan...in Tokyo what do
