Serves meat, vegan options available. A small, cafe run by a local organic farmer, located only about 3 mins away from Takayama station. Ask what can be made vegan. It has only 5 seats, but take out is available. Removed September 2023: Limited vegan options.

Fresh and tasty

The vegetables were delicious and picked that morning by the farmer who runs the restaurant. It was delicious and a great first meal in Takayama. Chef was very friendly. Place was cute.

Pros: High quality multi course meal, Extremely fresh, Friendly farmer/chef

Cons: Only 4 chairs, so could be hard to get in, Reservations done through instagram

Meh, expensive, not many options around

Curry is average for 1600 yen and you have to pay for obligatory appetizer 500 yen even if u don't want it. Really small place, 4 places counter. Owner is nice though and food supposed to be organic.

If you could only go to 1 restaurant, go here!!!

Authentic Takayama-Hida cuisine - the owner has so much passion for food and delivering an exceptional service to his customers: he owns his own organic farm and everything put on the table is grown and cooked by him!! Really intimate setting (seats maybe 4-5 people). Vegetarian food on menu, vegan on demand. Honestly best food we’ve had in japan. Also, try the sake testing! Sooo worth it.

Pros: Incredible food, Absolutely amazing owner, Intimate dining experience

Cons: More pricey than other places BUT so worth it!!!!

Definitely 5 stars. Best meal we had in Japan. Seasonal menu. He had one vegan option - Japanese curry- but it was mind blowing. The owner is lovely and dedicated to his craft. He is happy to chat about specifics of growing produce in his farm to cooking techniques and Japanese home style cooking. The quality of food was exceptional and in a very intimate setting (small bar with room for about 5 people). Also, get the sake flight- you won’t regret it! Just go!

Pros: Exceptional food, Passionate owner , More than just another meal - it’s an experience!

Would have given it 5* if the site would let me

Seriously fantastic fully organic place, the owner is so welcoming. He owns a farm in takayama - all produce is sourced (as much as seasonally possible) from his own farm. Only seats 5 guests at a time - be prepared to have a chat with fellow diners and the lovely owner. Must visit in takayama

Pros: Excellent food, Warm friendly owner, Great atmosphere

Not only the food but also the owner, we really appreciated his passion and his warmth, he cares about his guests and about life on earth! Even though we found only one vegan option it was absolutely one of the best thing we have ever eaten. Definitely 5 stars!

It was okay

Indeed a small and cozy place, with about 5 seats and near the station. They had two vegetarian options, the vegetarian plate or curry. The curry I chose was flavourful, but I expected more vegetables, as on their own posted pictures. Because of allergies, I would have appreciated more specific information about the used ingredients when asked.

In contrast to other reviews, the vibe was rushed, we didn’t see the owner/cook much untill we suddenly had to pay after our last bite. Price-quality ratio could be better. We consumed 1 curry, 1 burger, 1 kettle with two teacups which amounted to about ¥4400.

We really looked forward to eating here but unfortunately left somewhat dissapointed. Hopefully others will have a better experience because of our feedback :)

Pros: Cute and cozy, Good location

Cons: Pricey for what you get, Rushed vibe

Lovely warm vegetarian place

The owner actually produces all the veggies himself and cooks as well. If you are travelling to takayama, you should definitely try thier vegetarian curry. Superb banana bread too.. you will be happy not with only with the warm food but also by hosts' warmth.. Highly recommend for people from indian sub continent who have been missing spicy
food in Japan..

Pros: Great vegetarian food, Quiet and cozy, Quick service

Cons: Small for a big group

Tasty Home-cooked Meal

Felt lucky to have found this restaurant in the small town of Takayama. Good portions, tasty and hot when served cause they cook on order. They only had curry when we went but they have some options. Desserts available. Small place, around 5-6 seats on the bar, but that's what gives this place a good homey feel. The staff is a friendly lady who spoke good English so she was able to not only cook for us a good hearty meal but also give good activity recommendations.

Pros: home-cooked food, home-made desserts

Cons: a bit pricey
