Underwhelming - Edit

There was only one vegan entree -- a stuffed acorn squash. It came out cold (though was clearly supposed to be hot), was difficult to eat, and was totally bland. I had a beet salad (minus the cheese), which was fine, but certainly not impressive, particularly for one of the most expensive, upscale restaurants in town.

Pros: upscale ambience

Cons: only one vegan entree, food's not great, expensive

Po Boy lives up to its name - Edit

While i am grateful that Cafe Navarro actually has 1 lone vegan option, in this very beef friendly town, a "vegan po boy", i am sorry to report that it was dry and lacked flavor. It would have benefitted from a side of the soy grape-seed mayo or another condiment. It was served with green beans swimming in butter. The staff apparently wasn't told what vegan means.

Pros: Pretty restaurant. Cloth napkins. Spacious bar

Cons: More attention needs to be paid to your vegan food

One delicious vegan entree - Edit

There is only one vegan entree on the menu (labeled as vegan) but it is so good I keep coming back. They are also very nice about modifying salads to be vegan. I recommend the arugula and heirloom tomato salad as an appetizer (order without cheese if you want it vegan). They always manage to have delicious tomatoes. The wine menu is great. I do wish they had another vegan dessert option aside from sorbet. It is very good sorbet, but I'm usually much to cold to want sorbet, especially in winter in South Bend. There are some vegetarian options as well but being vegan I haven't tried them.

Pros: Delicious vegan entree, Staff knowledgeable and helpful, Vegan-izable salads

Cons: Only vegan dessert is sorbet
