No vegan cheese anymore - Edit
The waitress confirmed multiple times that there is no vegan cheese. I showed here the pictures that were posted here previously for the vegan panela cheese, and she kept on repeating that they don't have vegan cheese and telling me to go eat at their sister restaurant. So I had a plain bagel with avocado, lettuce and tomato.

Enchiladas with vegan cheese - Edit
Had brunch at Café Mogagua and ordered the enchiladas papatecas with vegan cheese. They were delicious! The service was friendly and the vibe was great. I tried a bite of the refried beans too and they were so good. Just make sure to ask for no cheese on the beans (or ask for vegan cheese).

Good option on Isla - Edit
They had limited vegan options but I enjoyed what they had on offer.
Read moreVegan cheese was available for their avocado bagel. It lacked some creativity but it’s a great option on Isla, where finding plant based options is not a walk in the park. The cafe also has plant milk options as well!

Always! - Edit
Wir waren jeden Tag der 1½ Wochen im Café Mogagua. Der Service ist super und zuvorkommend. Das Essen genauso toll. Wirklich eine große Empfehlung!

Avocado toast - Edit
I had the avocado toast and I asked to substitute the feta cheese per the vegan cheese. It came with potatoes. It was so delicious that first I doubted the cheese was really vegan. I asked the waiter and she showed me the package. It was the Violife brand and the cheese type is panela. It was a great experience and the coffee was good too.

Strong doubts on the vegan cheese - Edit
It definitely tastes like cheese because it could very well be!
Read moreI first tasted it and had doubts. Asked the waiter to ask the chef for the brand and gave me some commun name queso panela, saying it was from abroad, and they had no packaging to show me. He then said the owner is vegan, I asked for his name, he replied that he is from Spain, not here and has no social media . Sorry, can’t buy that.

I had the same feeling after tasting it but I was luck that the waiter showed me the package and the brand was Violife, which is very common in the USA, and it was called Panela type. I was so happy that it was 100% vegan and I gave them this feedback to add the brand name into the menu. :)

Staff got really nasty when I didn’t tip them enough - Edit
Food was ok, staff were ok until I paid the bill and they didn’t feel the tip was enough (10% and I’m a single parent there with h my 3 kids). The manager showed me on a piece of paper that 10% meant the service was poor and 25% meant I thought it was good. I explained that I was unable to give more. With that the energy changed and no one would say good bye to my baby who was waving at them. So I said adios and they replied in an angry voice, avoiding looking at me. Shame as we had planned to eat there each day on the island. But in fact we never went back after that.

My go-to breakfast spot on the island - Edit
We keep going back for breakfast! The enchiladas and açaí smoothie bowls are good, but there is something about the veggie bagel with vegan cheese that I am addicted to. It’s just bagel, lettuce, tomato, a lot of avocado, and a big chunk of vegan cheese. (I will dream about that cheese.) I add pepper and a little salt and it is so, so good. The staff are wonderful and it is a nice open, breezy shaded dining area. I could do without the massive photos on the walls of people yelling. MASSIVE. Like looking at someone’s face magnified x50. Pores, hair follicles, taste buds, uvula… plz not while I’m eating.

A good place for breakfast - Edit
Love places that has options for both me and my non-vegan husband. We came for breakfast and the place was quite crowded. Got an amazing mango smoothie and orange juice. The vegan quesadillas were okay but didn’t have much flavour. Appreciate that there were quite a few options to choose from. It had a good vibe though and I would maybe return if I go back to Isla Mujeres.

Good - Edit
The restaurant’s atmosphere and staff are super nice. They have a few clearly labeled vegetarian and vegan options. However I ordered the tacos nopales with vegan cheese (repeated that the cheese should be vegan several times, cause I think another restaurant on the island had given me real cheese accidentally earlier), and yet I am pretty sure they put real cheese. Very unfortunate. Also pretty expensive…
