Fresh food with a wow factor

I was divided on whether to write a review or keep this place all to myself. It’s truly a hidden gem with some of the most colorful, well-presented, and thoughtful café fare around.

We spent 4 days at the lake for a music festival and came here 3 out of 4 days. It was really that good. Why, you ask, when there are only 3.5 vegan dishes on the menu? (More on that .5 in a sec.) The presentation is excellent - they’ve understood the theory about eating with our eyes first - and the price is extremely reasonable. To top it off, servers are friendly and personable (and many speak English well).

We had iced and hot lattes with oat milk (pretty good) and mango lemonade (showy but just ok). The food is the real show-stopper: beetroot hummus with quinoa and parsley dusted with pomegranate seeds and edible flowers and paired with thickly-sliced sourdough bread. We had this two days in a row and were floored.

The other delicacy is the avocado toast.
Full disclosure: I never order avocado toast at restaurants because it’s usually too simple and I have hang-ups about ordering things in restaurants that I can make myself. But THIS avocado toast, my friends…it’s something special. I’ll let the photo speak for itself. I will continue to not order avocado toast in restaurants because I am sure all other “avocado toasts” will be disappointing after this experience.

Cherry on top: they have vegan desserts that are as delicious as the food. This is Balaton’s best kept secret, but do reserve if you’d like brunch on the weekend.
