Better than they were, but…

Cafe Kitsch has been through several changes of ownership over the years. They have moved to a nicer location and the menu is now 100% vegan and gluten-free.

After not going there for years, I decided to give them another chance.

Challenge number 1 is having only one person working. There were four tables occupied and the one person did a pretty good job, but we had to wait quite a long time for our drinks.

I ordered the falafel sandwich, which was always my go-to item the first few years they were open. While it was okay, the falafel are very hard (a friend once described them as hockey pucks), and the gluten-free bread doesn’t hold together well.

Yes, they are the only all vegan restaurant in Panajachel. But there are a lot of better vegan options elsewhere.

Pros: The only all-vegan place in Pana, Gluten-free, if you’re into that

Cons: Pricey

Vegan spot in Panajachel

Full vegan menu. Tried the tofu pita (think falafel would have been better), and some of the cookies and a truffle. Truffle was amazing. The vegan crepes looked good as well but didn't get to try.

Pros: Plenty of vegan options , Yummy truffle

Cons: Tofu pita a bit soggy

New building and better food.

This little place is tucked away in the back of the Primavera Building midway down Santander on the right. It’s a lovely setting, yet still reasonably priced. Two of us ate for q 135. Including drinks. We had choices of items such as falafel, sandwiches, soup, savory and sweet crepes, desserts-all vegan. They also have gluten free options. I got the falafel and an orange juice. My friend got soup (it’s a generous bowl) and coffee. All of it was delicious. I was too full but want to go there for crepes one day.

Pros: Menu page of vegan options , Lovely and quiet setting , Good food and prices

Cons: Hard to find. They need a frame out front , Limited hours. , Serves animal products as well.

100% vegan and glutenfree restaurant

Small, very modern, restaurant. New menu = 100% vegan and gluten free. Hidden behind a shop but well worth looking for!

Has a vegan/vegetarian menu

Has a separate menu of vegetarian food, it says vegan on the menu but a few things are veggie that need modifying. They have soups, salads, burgers, pitas etc and some sweet things. I have a lentil soup which was tasty and a cookie, the cookie was quite hard and dry.

Good

I went to Panajachel for a day back in 2017 and was lucky enough to find this place when I got hungry.
I had a vegan soup served with Doritos, and a juice.
It was OK but nothing special.
Just grateful I found somewhere to eat.
At the time it was only vegan... I've juste read that they have changed to vegan, vegetarian and omni... which I find a bit disappointing.

Pros: Vegan options

Cons: Very simple food.

Not that much vegan

Advertising with vegan food. You have to edit vegetarian versions. At least we got something.

Disappointing

We visited Kitsch based on the great reviews here and both ordered the gyros.

Only one person was working -- though I'm not sure there were any other customers -- and thus it took about 30 minutes to get our food.

The flavor was bland but worse, everything seemed to have been soaked in water. It was all soggy and borderline nauseating. Our worst dining experience in Guatemala.

Cons: Soggy food, Tasteless food, Long wait

Cafe which has separate Vegan menu

There is separate vegan menu! So I didn’t have to bother staff asking what they can do for me.. We had hummus, pita with falafels - it was really nice, and my eggplant soup was bit oily but really nice! They freshly made pita bread is yum too. Unfortunately, they had only vegan cookies for us (as rest of desserts were not vegan) but those choc cookies were really good! We had them with soy cap! (It looks that they use normal soy, which is not sweet(as the rest of Guatemala and México), so coffee tasted surprisingly good!
Staff were not too friendly, maybe it’s just because we don’t speak spanish.. :)

Pros: separate vegan menu, offers vegan desserts

Cons: staff not very accommodating

Good vegan options

Has separate vegan menu that includes hot dogs, gyros, hummus, tapenade, soups and tzatziki. Also non-dairy milk for your coffee. This place has some really great options for vegans.

Could be better

First of all, I think the map location isn't correct. Its located further down the street.

The staff was very friendly and the gyros tasty.. But served all cold!! :-( also rather small portions and in comparison to other places overpriced, especially when cold.

Pros: Friendly staff, Food clearly marked vegan

Cons: Small portions, Cold

Good news, bad news

So, first the bad. This is no longer the little vegan paradise it used to be... ownership has changed hands and it's a 50/50 deal. Half of the menu is meat-based. On top of that, it's a bit understaffed, and if you get there when there's only one person working, be prepared to wait around for up to 30-45 minutes or even more as they deal with other customers and go in the back to make your stuff.

The good: it still has those delicious vegan gyros and an extensive vegan menu with veggie dogs, soups, and other good stuff. It's a cute (though tiny) space right on Santander and also makes some great smoothies and juices. Cookies and baked goods are hit and miss but several are marked vegan and at least a few are quite good. While the staff can sometimes be a bit harried, they are very friendly.

Stop by and support one of the best v-options in Pana... just don't expect it to be as amazing as it used to be. They're carrying on the menu but the love that the former owners put into each dish isn't really there anymore.

Pros: great vegan menu, convenient, cute

Cons: only half vegan, understaffed, long wait times

Excellent German Bakery withVegan Sandwiches/Soup

Enjoy excellent foods and deserts from a great outdoor but sheltered people watching place. They make DELICIOUS vegan Gyros using their own fresh made pita bread. These are tasty, vegan or not. What I like also is that they serve their coffee in a french press. I live in Pana and this is one of the place I hope stays open for a long time. They also make great soups as well as gluten free products. Well worth the visit.P.S. If you don't know howtouse a frenc press, the coffee needs to stay for 4 minutes before you press down and pour. Ask the waiter how long go he put th hot water in and subtract. (usually a minute)

Pros: Flavorful food, Price, location

Cons: not enough seating at times., but they are expanding soon.
